Meizu 21 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Meizu 21 Overview
Meizu 21 is a compact flagship that will bypass us
A huge number of mobile electronics fans rejoiced at the revival of the once popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu. Unfortunately, the developer now produces products only in the Middle Kingdom; international versions of models are a thing of the past. And this fact is upsetting, because such balanced, technologically advanced and at the same time reasonably priced gadgets as the hero of today’s review come out of the corporation’s assembly line.
The appearance of the new product is beautiful and at the same time minimalistic. The metal frame and glass of the back panel are harmoniously combined with an almost non-protruding camera block and narrow display frames. Of course, the signature ring of LED flashes is not missing either. The 6.55-inch AMOLED screen has a resolution of 2340x1080 pixels, a 120-Hz image refresh rate, and a brightness reserve that has increased to 1800 nits. The color rendition was also adjusted, and the responsiveness of the under-screen fingerprint scanner was improved.
The technical characteristics were the top Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU, 8GB/12GB of RAM, Adreno 750 video core. Surprisingly, the newest processor is almost not subject to throttling in a small case, it scores record results in the AnTuTu and Geekbench benchmarks, provides fantastically smooth gameplay in any resource-intensive game. At the same time, the energy efficiency of the chipset does not raise any questions; the 4800 mAh battery is always enough for a day of extremely intensive work with the device. Wireless charging was left for the Pro version, but the power of its wired counterpart, increased to 80W, allows you to replenish the battery capacity in a matter of minutes. The size of the permanent memory can be 256 or 512GB; it cannot be expanded with microSD cards.
The main cameras are a 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP3 main sensor with optical stabilization, a 13-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 5-megapixel portrait module. The photo capabilities have not changed much compared to those of its predecessor; the detail of evening photos and videos has been slightly improved. Stereo sound still pleases with volume and presence of bass; NFC contactless payment and 5G support have not disappeared. But there is still no full moisture protection; the IP54 standard only guarantees the assistant’s resistance to splashes of water. A significant disadvantage is that the software has not been translated into languages other than English. In addition, there are applications specifically for the Chinese market that cannot be removed. It is precisely such shortcomings that put an end to truly impressive sales of an excellent device.
