Xiaomi Redmi 12 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Xiaomi Redmi 12 Overview
Xiaomi Redmi 12 is a beautiful disappointment
The Chinese company Xiaomi has been a leader in the sale of smartphones around the world for several years in a row. Perhaps it was this success that turned the head of the manufacturer, who now does not hesitate to release frankly mediocre phones at times. So, the hero of today's review in many respects is even inferior to its predecessor, released a couple of years ago.
The appearance of the device has become one of its strengths, because the design of the back panel duplicates that of the more expensive devices of the line. A triple photo module, a side fingerprint sensor, thin screen bezels, an 8-megapixel selfie camera at the top of the display - we have a stylish and up-to-date exterior for a gadget at the turn of the low and medium price categories. The 6.79-inch IPS screen is also good, though not the best. Its positive sides will be a decent FullHD + resolution, a 90-Hz picture refresh rate. The color reproduction seems a little faded, there are problems with the margin of brightness, which is not always enough in direct sunlight.
Technical specifications can be disappointing. There is simply no progress in this aspect. The MediaTek Helio G88 CPU has become quite outdated, neither 4GB / 6GB of RAM, nor the Mali G52MC2 video adapter can help it. The MIUI shell based on Android sometimes noticeably slows down, you can’t dream of the latest resource-intensive gaming innovations. Genshin Impact, Fortnite, Honkai: Star Rail are not characterized by smooth gameplay even at minimum graphics settings. But at least in terms of energy efficiency, the chipset has not lost its relevance. The 5000 mAh battery lasts for one and a half to two days. The charging speed at the same time is depressing 18W, with which the device will have to stay at the outlet for almost 2 hours. At the same time, they did not save on the amount of permanent memory, 128 / 256GB of ROM can be easily increased using MicroSD cards.
The photo capabilities of the cameras are not amazing. The 2-megapixel depth sensor is installed for beauty, the 8-megapixel wide-angle lens is only suitable for daytime shooting of still objects, the main 50-megapixel Samsung JN1 module does not cause the positive emotions that it used to. Evening shots are often full of noise, it's hard not to notice the drop in detail. There is stereo sound, but the volume of the speakers is uneven, in addition, there is practically no bass. NFC contactless payments, an infrared port for controlling household appliances have not disappeared, but they are unlikely to compensate for many minor flaws and an increased price tag. Thus, the gadget is unlikely to become a real hit.
