UMIDIGI G1 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
UMiDIGI G1 Overview
UMiDIGI G1 - flaws that will not be forgiven
Every smartphone manufacturer is trying to please the audience and reduce the cost of production, but finding the right balance is sometimes incredibly difficult. So, the Chinese Umidigi company did everything possible to make the hero of today's review cheaper to manufacture, but completely forgot to give him at least a basic level of performance.
The designers of the corporation definitely worked on the appearance of the novelty, which is also noticeable in the tactilely pleasant matte finish of the case, the stylish dual camera. The quality of the used plastic is also not satisfactory, the material collects scratches and fingerprints reluctantly. But the lack of a fingerprint sensor, a 5-megapixel selfie camera in the “drop” form factor and visible display frames still do not allow us to call the exterior ideal. The 6.52-inch IPS display is budget-friendly, which can be seen from the low resolution of 1600x720 pixels, but the brightness and contrast parameters are better than those of most representatives of the lower price category of the Android smartphone market.
Unfortunately, similar words will not apply to technical specifications. The indecently weak MediaTek MT 6739 CPU with 2GB of RAM and the PowerVR GE8100 graphics accelerator copes mediocrely even with Android 12 Go, numerous interface lags are unlikely to bring joy to the user. The gaming possibilities are very limited, a good framerate can only be expected in 2D projects or 3D games like Subway Surfers. The processor is not particularly energy efficient, but potential problems with autonomy are completely eliminated by the 5150mAh battery. You will have to charge the battery once every one and a half days, there is a USB Type-C port and fast charging, but its power is modest 10W. The size of the internal storage is 32GB, which is strongly recommended to be increased with MicroSD cards.
The 13- and 2-megapixel main cameras are equipped with LED flash and autofocus, so the installed sensors cannot be considered completely useless. Capturing documents with them is usually fruitful, like daytime photo shoots, but the slightest deterioration in lighting leads to monstrous blurring, loss of detail. For music lovers, there is a separate headphone jack, but the mono speaker is quite quiet, there is a chance even to miss an important call. There are no NFC contactless payments, but they could significantly increase the attractiveness of the Android phone. As a result, we have an autonomous, beautiful, but inefficient device, working with which will bring a lot of negativity.
