The Doogee S300 – simplified, yet still presentable

The Chinese company Doogee has decided to create an entire S300 line of smartphones, varying greatly in performance, features, and, of course, price. The hero of today's review is the most affordable option in the new series, yet still delivering a more than enjoyable user experience.

The design of the new device is quite interesting for its class. The numerous stylish case colors, the modern round camera housing, and the conveniently located fingerprint scanner on the side are eye-catching. Of course, this rugged all-in-one device boasts impressive durability and IP69 water resistance. However, the typical design flaws of similar devices, such as wide screen bezels and impressive dimensions, remain. The 6.78-inch IPS panel is frankly inexpensive, though not terrible. It displays crisp content at a resolution of 2460x1080 pixels and smoothly at a refresh rate of 120 Hz. However, it's hard not to notice the lackluster color reproduction compared to even mediocre AMOLED counterparts, and the low brightness of 500 nits.

The specifications include a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 CPU, 12 GB of RAM, and a Mali G615MC2 GPU. The performance drop compared to the Pro model is significant, but far from critical. Still, 650,000 points in AnTuTu is enough to prevent the Android 16 interface from annoying frequent lags. However, for your favorite resource-intensive games, it's recommended to use low-medium graphics presets, otherwise the frame rate will often drop below 30 frames per second. The battery capacity is now 9000 mAh, but due to the energy-efficient chipset, there's no drop in battery life. 15 hours of screen-on time is easily seen. The battery also features 45W fast charging. There's 512 GB of internal storage, but there's still a microSD card slot.

The photography capabilities are neither overwhelming nor disappointing. The 20-megapixel monochrome night vision sensor would have been nice to replace with a telephoto lens, but at least the secondary cameras include an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens. The main 108-megapixel sensor lacks optical image stabilization, so decent photo and video detail are only possible in good daylight. There's no stereo sound, but the large speaker does its job, and even the bass is audible. NFC contactless payments and 5G support are available. As a result, we have before us a competitive representative of its subclass, justifying the money asked for it.
