Honor Magic 9 Overview
Honor Magic 9 - A Transition to Compactness
The Chinese company Honor is keeping up with current trends. People are increasingly opting for compact, ergonomic smartphones across various price ranges. So why not create a compact flagship for this user group? It was with this in mind that the developer came up with the hero of today's review.
The new model's appearance largely mirrors that of its predecessors, which is a welcome development. The titanium alloy side frame, several beautiful color options for the rear glass panels with distinct styles, the familiar round photo module cluster, and the nearly invisible display bezels with an integrated ultrasonic fingerprint scanner all look modern and extremely competitive. IP69K water resistance is a welcome addition. The 6.36-inch AMOLED display boasts an excellent 2800x1260 resolution for its size, a class-standard 120Hz refresh rate, and an impressive peak brightness of 7000 nits. Color reproduction is meticulously crafted, and a highly effective oleophobic coating is implemented.
The latest sixth-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen chipset and 12/16GB of RAM deliver the best performance for Android devices. AnTuTu scores a previously unheard-of 4,300,000 points. The Android 17 interface is very responsive, and all existing games run at 100 frames per second or higher at maximum graphics settings. Throttling is noticeable, but frame rate drops are only detectable in synthetic benchmarks. It's amazing how the manufacturer managed to fit a whopping 8000 mAh battery into this device. A battery life of 2-3 days of intensive use with a mobile assistant is becoming a reality. Buyers will often use the fast 50W wireless charging, although the wired 100W alternative is also perfectly adequate. Internal storage options range from 256 to 1024 GB.
The camera capabilities are impressive. The main, large 200-megapixel Omnivision sensor and 64-megapixel periscope lens with 3x optical zoom feature hybrid stabilization and an improved autofocus system. Taking even evening photos with these cameras is a joy. The 50-megapixel wide-angle lens is simpler, but certainly not useless. The list of advantages is supplemented by loud, bass-rich stereo speakers, support for eSIM and NFC contactless payments, face recognition unlocking (a special monochrome sensor), an amazing vibration motor, and an IR port, completing the portrait of an outstanding device.
