Huawei P50 Pocket Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Huawei P50 Pocket Overview
Huawei P50 Pocket - technological, compact, flagship
The Chinese company Huawei, although it lost a significant part of its fans due to the ban on the use of Google services in smartphones, did not lose the accumulated budget funds. The developer tries to maintain the competitiveness of the product by combining its reasonable price tag, wide functionality and high performance. So, the hero of today's review combines all of the above and complements it with an advanced form factor. But is everything so rosy in the new Android smartphone?
The design of the novelty will delight lovers of "clamshells". When folded, we see a small, albeit rather thick candy bar, a round auxiliary AMOLED screen of which displays information about the percentage of charge, missed calls and messages. When unfolded, we see the main 6.9-inch AMOLED display , surprising with an extremely rich and contrasting picture. The screen has everything you need to please the buyer, namely a refresh rate of 120Hz , a huge margin of brightness, FullHD + resolution. The PWM effect, harmful to vision, is manifested to a small extent, another advantage of the AMOLED panel is a high-quality oleophobic layer. Unfortunately, instead of glass, the flexible display uses a special plastic with a protective coating. This solution is less durable. I also want to praise the exterior of the folding phablet itself. The photomodules block looks nice, the glass back panel with metal edging does not disappoint either.
The technical characteristics are fully consistent with the status of the device. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 CPU, 8 / 12GB of RAM and the Adreno 660 video chip, even after a couple of years, will delight with lightning-fast launch of applications and their smooth operation, gamers will have no complaints about the chipset either. Genshin Impact, Fortnite works great, however, graphics presets should be lowered to average due to CPU throttling. The heating of the case after an hour of gameplay is noticeable and not entirely comfortable. With autonomy, too, everything is far from ideal. Although the 4000mAh battery charges in half an hour, it only provides a day of active interaction with the mobile assistant. But the size of the ROM has been brought up to 128 / 256GB of the UFS 3.1 format.
It is hardly possible to criticize the photo capabilities of the gadget, because 40-, 32- and 8-megapixel cameras will be sufficient for the vast majority of users. Daytime shooting will not cause difficulties even for inexperienced photographers, and evening shots are usually abundant in detail, even if noise is present due to the lack of optical stabilization. 8K video evokes extremely positive emotions. NFC contactless payment, stereo sound - these are other advantages of an almost ideal phone, but the lack of Google services makes it difficult for many Android applications to function, which makes it simply impossible to recommend a device for purchase.
