Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max Overview
Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max – an imperfection that draws attention
Unlike many of its competitors, the Chinese company Huawei is legally restricted from using certain software or components, yet it still produces extremely interesting and competitive products, even in the flagship segment. Today's review subject is not without its compromises, but the overall impression will be positive even for the most discerning audience.
The appearance of the new device is practically flawless. It's hard not to fall in love with the variety of metal and durable tempered glass body colors (from austere black to stylish gradient designs), the distinctive camera module, and the barely visible display bezels with an integrated fingerprint scanner. The 6.9-inch AMOLED panel boasts a 2880x1308 resolution, which isn't record-breaking but is optimal for crisp content. It also boasts a refresh rate of 120 Hz and an impressive 4000 nits of brightness. PWM is eliminated by 99%, color reproduction is flawless, and the touch panel is very responsive. Of course, it also features a highly effective oleophobic coating.
The technical specifications are unlikely to impress, as the performance gap between the Kirin 9030S chipset, 12 GB of RAM, and the Maleoon 935F GPU remains large compared to the latest solutions from Qualcomm and MediaTek. However, the vast majority of users will be satisfied with the 1,600,000-1,700,000 points it achieves in AnTuTu. The processor is sufficient for everyday tasks and smooth rendering of the EMUI 16 interface, but it's recommended to reduce graphics settings to medium-high in the most demanding games. Battery life, provided by a 6000mAh battery (5400mAh in some regional versions), reaches up to ten hours of screen time. Wireless 80W charging is complemented by an equally impressive 100W wired charging option. Storage options include 256GB and 512GB.
Photographic capabilities are close to those of camera phones. The main photo modules are made by Smartsens, with a large 50-megapixel SC595XS main camera and a high-tech 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom, both equipped with hybrid image stabilization, easily handling evening and night photography while maintaining stunning detail. The SC535XS's 40-megapixel wide-angle lens is simpler but still capable. Of course, such results wouldn't have been possible without a ToF sensor. Rich and deep stereo sound, NFC contactless payments, support for 5G networks and eSIM, satellite text messaging (not available in all countries), and full IP69 dust and moisture resistance round out the picture of a top-notch device for this price range.
