The OnePlus N6x is too simple

The Chinese company OnePlus, known for its high-quality flagship smartphones, is trying to find buyers in the lower price segment. However, the developer hasn't been particularly successful in winning over customers. Thus, the subject of today's review, although inexpensive, is extremely unbalanced.

The new device's appearance is unimpressive. Yes, it has a stylish camera module, an unusual textured rear panel with vertical stripes, and attractive case colors. But water resistance only meets IP64 standards, thick screen bezels, the outdated design of the modest 5-megapixel selfie camera, and mediocre plastic make for a rather negative impression. The 1570x720 resolution is insufficient for a 6.8-inch IPS panel. Small fonts and icons appear washed out or soft. The 900 nit brightness allows for viewing images in direct sunlight, but visibility is still compromised. Among the pros is the smooth image quality at a refresh rate of 120 Hz, while the downside is the sometimes overly dull color reproduction.

The technical specifications are mixed. On the one hand, the combination of the MediaTek Dimensity 6360 processor and Mali G57-MC2 graphics adapter delivers around 400,000 points in the AnTuTu benchmark, as well as 5G support. However, even the modest potential of this combination is undermined by the 4 GB of RAM, which is frankly insufficient these days. Android 16 runs more or less stably, but apps quickly exit the system tray. Resource-intensive games like Genshin Impact are out of the question. Crashes to the desktop, along with numerous freezes and lags, are common. However, battery life is incredibly impressive. The 7000 mAh battery lasts for 10-15 hours of screen time. However, charging at only 15W means you'll have to spend a long time near a power outlet or power bank. The storage is limited to 64GB/128GB, so using a microSD card is highly recommended.

The camera capabilities are very weak. The main 13-megapixel camera module and 0.3-megapixel portrait sensor are suitable for video calls or document capture, but you won't be able to capture high-quality artistic shots in all lighting conditions. Stereo sound is missing, but a rare headphone jack is included. For some reason, there's no fingerprint scanner or NFC contactless payment. Therefore, this is a potential failure, as the device has virtually no compensation for its inferior cameras and features compared to similar devices from other brands.
