Onikuma K5 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
K5 и K6 Overview
Onikuma K5 and K6 - increasing gaming emotions!
Over the past few decades, computer games have evolved from a simple pleasant pastime into a full-fledged sport, and sometimes into real pieces of art. For the full perception of the plot, gameplay and other aspects of gaming applications you must have not only a productive computer or a bright, contrasty monitor, but also a high-qualitative sound source. Good full-size headphones adequately perform this role. Unfortunately, the cost of such devices sometimes exceeds tens of thousands of rubles. The Chinese company Onikuma has tried to create stylish, durable, decent-sounding and at the same time inexpensive headphones that are not much emptying the pockets of customers. And the models under the names K5 and K6 can be easily attributed to reasonable and very pleasant shopping.
The top photos belong to Onikuma K5 headphones, the bottom ones are Onikuma K6.
Both models of headphones meet us with pretty boxes of their rather thick cardboard, which, however, were still a bit dented during the delivery process. In the case of the K5, the “headphones” were wrapped several times in cellophane, as for the K6, the developer was generous with the plastic form, potentially increasing the safety of the headphones. The kit also includes a jack splitter on separate connectors for headphones and microphone, instructions for use. In Onikuma K5 manual is larger and includes a detailed description in Russian.
Let us turn to the appearance and design of gadgets. Both pairs of headphones are made of high quality polycarbonate, devoid of any extraneous odors. In this case, the frame is reinforced with a metal plate, so that the strength of the “ears” increases.
At the top of the headband both K5 and K6 have thick foam layer, hidden with imitation leather. Together with a large stock of headband size adjustment and soft ear cushions from the same foam rubber and faux leather, this decision of the manufacturer has a positive effect on ergonomics.
At the same time, the Onikuma K6 ear cushions are noticeably larger and softer, which allows to improve not only comfort, but also sound insulation.
In terms of the attractiveness of the exterior, the K6 also bypasses the K5 a bit. Part of the cup is made of plastic, stylized glass, a metal element located in the place of mounting of the microphone also adds appeal.
In addition, the microphone in the Onikuma K6 is flexible, while the K5 model is not ready to boast of such a distinctive ability.
The wires of both pairs are about the same quality. They come out of the left cup, having a length of 2.2 meters, a thickness of about 4.5mm, covered with fabric braid. The memory effect exists but it is low. To find fault in the quality of the wires is simply impossible.
Headphone volume controls have a different design, but similar build quality and functionality (volume change, microphone on/off).
The wire splitter to separate USB and 3.5mm connectors also looks durable in both cases. It should be noted that the connection of headphones via USB is necessary only to turn on the backlight of the cups (blue in the case of Onikuma K5 and red in the case of the K6 model).
How do Onikuma products manifest themselves in games? For testing were chosen such popular today games as Battlefield 1, World Of Tanks, Assassin’s Creed Origins. In the last project, positioning of sound is the least important, but it was present. However, only the side from which the sound came was to be fully felt. Determination of the distance was carried out on a scale of "close-far." With multiplayer games, the situation is a bit better. Fans of “Tanks” will be glad to have a rich palette of sounds surprising with realism and usefulness. The salvos of breechloaders are powerful and full-fledged; it is easy to distinguish explosions from projectiles of self-propelled guns, powerful blows of heavy tanks and modest, sometimes seemingly punctate shots of light tanks. In addition, there are no problems with uneven volume. But in Battlefield 1 they sometimes appear. In this project, the headphone volume has to be set high enough (about 50%) to hear the actions of opponents at long distances, to understand the approximate space to the rival or the fighting. Discomfort occurs when intense battles are near, when an abundance of loud explosions and shots can cause not the most pleasant sensations and a bit distract from the game. However, this moment is still subjective. The localization of sounds vertically is mediocre, but in many respects it is connected both with the peculiarities of human hearing and the inability to organize truly believable legibility in height with the actual structure of the headphones. As a result, the impression of Onikuma K5 and K6 in gaming sessions is extremely positive. At the same time, it is very difficult to select a winner in this nomination, headphones show approximately similar results. The work of the microphone is better on Onikuma K6, human speech is more intelligible and close to natural.
It is necessary to determine the capabilities of Onikuma products in musical terms. Here, both are encouraging, because for the majority of inexpensive gaming headphones simply cannot cope with even simple compositions. First of all, let's take a look at the technical characteristics of the “ears”.
Onikuma K5:
- speaker diameter 50mm;
- impedance 16Ohm;
- frequency range 20-20000gts;
- sensitivity 114db.
Onikuma K6:
- speaker diameter 50mm;
- impedance 32Ohm;
- frequency range 20-20000gts;
- sensitivity 108db.
Just want to note the fact that, most likely, the speakers used are identical. Differences in sound occur only because of the different acoustic design and resistance. Let's compare the possibilities of headphones on several musical compositions. The source is the ZTE Axon 7 smartphone with the AK4490 D/A converter. While playing music from a laptop or a simple smartphone the sound quality drops, but remains acceptable.
Poets of the Fall - My Dark Disquiet
This composition of the famous Finnish band from their new album Ultraviotet is replete with a huge number of synthesizer sounds, replaced by electric guitars and string instruments. In addition, headphones should not miss the emotions of a strong vocal, the volume of which “dances” significantly during the song. It should be noted that both models of headphones have a “dark” sound, that means that high mids and high frequencies are noticeably lowered. On the one hand, the sound will be comfortable even for people who, with their whole essence, hate the harsh cymbals of drums and sibilant vocals (accented sound “s”, “t”, “tsh” and so on), on the other - the sound lacks crystal clarity, it seems a bit turbid. The K5 has a lot of emphasis on bass, the mids are slightly lowered. In this composition, drums and bass are blurred, poorly distinguishable, some of the synthesizer sounds are “overlap” with bloated bass, however, the vocals remain saturated and emotional, the string instruments pleasantly caress the ear in the chorus. The size of the imaginary scene pleases with width, but not depth. The K6 model has a more restrained level of bass, the mid frequencies due to this seem more distinct. At the same time, real sound detailing is still at a fairly average level. The stage has the same width, but it feels a little deeper due to the approximate vocals and slightly more distant drums. As a result, both pairs of headphones are not disappointing, but not surprising. K6 is a bit ahead.
Royal Blood - Ten Tonne Skeleton
An energetic and memorable track from the popular rock duet from the UK does not differ by a huge number of instruments, but it is a test for sibilance and quality of low frequencies. Onikuma K5 presents this track well, the vocals are not annoying with accented consonants hissing, the sound of cymbals quite nicely complements the overall picture. The sound of the bass guitar is again “mixed” with the drums, but it is still distinguishable. The scene is wide, but rather flat. K6 does its best to defeat a competitor in the division of tools, and, it should be noted, it partially works out. Unfortunately, not without troubles. In some places of the composition sibilance still began to “crawl out”, the sound of the plates is felt a bit more dirty and “sandy”. Thus, Onikuma K5, although it produces a slightly simpler sound in terms of positioning and details, but is more comfortable.
Trivium - The Sin And The Sentence
It's time to check the speed data of our headphones. The great American metal band Trivium will help us with this. Surprisingly, both Onikuma K5 and K6 do their best not to fail to reproduce incredibly fast drum and guitar parts, which are perfectly combined with the voices of two vocalists. However, K5 lacks the aggression and dynamics that are in the K6 model. A slightly more accented sound of guitars, a lower level of bass, not so “climbing” to the middle frequencies, and a slightly larger number of high frequencies, giving the cymbals extra lightness, makes this pair of “ears” a winner.
Thus, Onikuma K5 and K6 are amazing gaming headphones in their price category. The excellent assembly quality, a nice looking design, decent gaming capabilities and, surprisingly, good musical abilities make both pairs of ears a stunning purchase in their price segment.
