Oukitel WP100 Plus – Fantastic Battery Life with a Lot of Compromises

Smartphones with ruggedized casings and IP69 water resistance often emphasize capacious batteries. However, sometimes developers turn their products into power banks with phone functionality, which are more of a pain to use. And today's review subject is precisely such a device.

The appearance of the new device has its positive aspects, but it's still disappointing. The main disappointment is the zero ergonomics, with a candybar body over three centimeters thick and weighing 784 grams. Holding such a monster in your hand for more than five minutes is extremely difficult. Of course, as usual, the display's huge bezels are present. Among the advantages, we note a trendy camping flashlight, an attractive photo module, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The 6.8-inch screen is made using IPS technology, so don't expect impressive peak brightness. Direct sunlight will still make the nearest shadow flicker. However, the image is sharp thanks to the 2460 x 1080 resolution, and content playback is smooth (120Hz refresh rate). However, color reproduction is somewhat dull, especially when next to a device with an AMOLED display.

The specifications include a MediaTek Helio G100 CPU, 12GB of RAM, and a Mali G57MC2 GPU. This combination doesn't support 5G networks and is outdated. In AnTuTu v10, the processor scores less than 400,000 points. While the Android 16 interface is still responsive, the situation is worse with games. Running favorite, yet resource-intensive, games like Genshin Impact and Call of Duty Mobile is possible with low graphics presets, with occasional lag. The 33,000mAh battery lasts up to a week without needing a power outlet. There's no wireless charging, but at least there's a 66W wired charger. Storage is ample (512GB), and there's also a microSD card slot.

Photography is standard for its class. The main 64-megapixel Omnivision sensor without hybrid stabilization is suitable for daytime photo shoots, but in low light, blur, noise, and color rendition are hard to miss. The complement of auxiliary sensors is mediocre. Buyers are unlikely to use the 20-megapixel monochrome night vision module or the 2-megapixel macro camera very often. There's no telephoto or wide-angle camera. NFC contactless payment and a single, loud speaker with immersive sound round out the list of advantages of this unusual, yet for all intents and purposes, rather unappealing device. Recommended only for fans of similar devices.
