Realme GT 9 Pro - Flagship Conservatism

High-end smartphones from the Chinese company Realme enjoy consistent, yet still rather limited, success. This is due to the lack of any significant competitive advantages or distinctive features. While the devices are technologically advanced, well-balanced, and functional, they lack any distinctive features. And today's review subject also fits this description, which is somewhat disappointing.

The new device's appearance is reminiscent of its predecessor. The dimensions and ergonomics of the all-in-one device are virtually identical, and the metal and tempered glass case colors are similar. Of course, maximum water resistance according to the IP69K standard is present. The photo module assembly has been slightly modified. It looks beautiful, although it protrudes significantly from the rear panel. The bezels of the nearly 7-inch AMOLED panel are barely noticeable, and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is housed within it. Image clarity is excellent at the 3200x1440 resolution, and content is smooth at a 120Hz refresh rate. Color reproduction is precisely calibrated, and the peak brightness of 5000 nits is sufficient for any phablet use case.

The technical specifications also meet class requirements. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 CPU in the Pro version, 12/16GB of RAM, and Adreno 850 GPU achieve a record-breaking 4,400,000 points in the AnTuTu benchmark, leaving even the most resource-intensive games and apps without the slightest chance of lag. Not to mention the smooth performance of the Android 17 interface (RealmeUI). While the top-end chipset's power efficiency is mediocre, the increased battery (8000mAh) helps. The final battery life of 10-12 hours of screen time is unlikely to disappoint even the most discerning buyer. However, if the manufacturer had increased the battery to 10,000 mAh, the gadget would have attracted many more fans. There's also wired charging with a 100W output and a wireless equivalent with a 50W output. Storage options are 512GB/1024GB.

Photography features a large 200-megapixel main module from Sony and a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, both equipped with hybrid stabilization, as well as a simpler 50-megapixel wide-angle lens. Photos and videos are close to those of leading camera phones in terms of detail, but are slightly more noisy and blurry. Rich, voluminous stereo sound, eSIM and 5G support, and NFC contactless payments round out the list of advantages of this attractive device. It's a shame that while it's good in every way, few of these areas reach excellent ratings for its price range. Still, the phone is definitely recommended.
