AGM H MAX - a lost success

The path of the Chinese company AGM in the smartphone market is noticeably different from that of its opponents. Having started its existence with the release of far from cheap phones with increased durability, the manufacturer gradually moved on to the creation of inexpensive, but less original gadgets. And sometimes the developer simply ruined even potentially interesting devices with his desire to reduce their cost.

The appearance of the new product is definitely not the most attractive. Of course, the excessive dimensions of the case can always be attributed to moisture protection according to IP68 standards and a large battery, but the huge screen frames, the outdated format of the 5-megapixel selfie camera, the simple design of the back panel and the not very beautiful block of photo modules cannot be attributed to such features. The 6.56-inch IPS-screen received HD+ resolution, so you can forget about image clarity. There is no impressive reserve of brightness (550 nits), so in the summer you will have to work with your mobile assistant exclusively in the shade. The smoothness of the picture at a 90-Hz refresh rate and realistic color rendition save the situation.

The technical characteristics are assigned to the UNISOC Tiger T606 processor, 4 GB of RAM and the Mali G57-MC1 video accelerator. A relatively good performance level of 250 thousand AnTuTu points is restrained by a modest amount of RAM. If the Android 14 interface functions without serious problems, but more or less resource-intensive games like Honkai: Star Rail can simply fly out to the desktop even with minimal graphics settings. The internal storage is allocated 128 GB, but it is allowed to expand it with MicroSD cards. Autonomy is the strongest side of the device, because the 10,000 mAh battery will provide about 15 hours of active screen time. But the charging power is limited to 18W, which is not particularly impressive for the capacity.

The photo capabilities are frankly disappointing. The simplest 13 and 2-megapixel main photo modules are suitable even for document capture, but most artistic shots have shortcomings for every taste and color. These include noise, white balance errors, and blurred details of objects. There is no stereo sound, and there is no separate headphone jack. But at least there are NFC contactless payments, because their lack would be significant for 99% of buyers. Thus, if the corporation had installed a high-quality IPS panel and cameras in the device, the unit would be easier to recommend for purchase.
