Asus ROG Phone 5 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Asus ROG Phone 5 Overview
Asus ROG Phone 5 - trade-offs for gamers
The phrase "gaming smartphone" is becoming more and more popular among fans of Android devices. A few years ago, such words aroused derision, but today the user can immerse himself in dozens of incredibly beautiful games with thought-out gameplay to the smallest detail. Of course, many of them require a very powerful device. The hero of today's review has the power to run such applications and a number of other advantages, but in the pursuit of performance, the developer forgot about the ergonomics of the novelty.
The appearance of the gadget evokes mixed emotions. The corporation from Taiwan has retained the design concept of the line, so the rear glass panel practically copies that of its predecessor and pleases with a triple photomodule, original texture. The 6.78- inch screen is almost bezel-less, but the 24-megapixel selfie camera sits above it, a weird and outdated solution. The metal edging of the case with touch-sensitive trigger buttons will please the eye. It would seem that the exterior turned out to be decent, but the impression of it is spoiled by the phone's thickness of 10mm. The previously mentioned AMOLED display is characterized by FullHD + resolution, excellent brightness and contrast, as well as an exorbitant 144Hz refresh rate . It is simply impossible to scold such an AMOLED panel.
Technical characteristics are also close to perfection. The top Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, 8GB / 12GB of RAM , the Adreno 660 graphics adapter will do everything possible that even after 3-4 years the latest Android games brought real pleasure to the buyer. In addition, the chipset features 5G network support, reasonable heat dissipation and energy efficiency. As a result, a decent 6000mAh battery guarantees about 10 hours of active screen time. The advantage of the battery will be fast charging at 65W (about 45-50 minutes from 0 to 100% capacity). The volume of internal storage, which is 128 / 256GB of ROM in UFS 3.1 format, also did not disappoint. There is no microSD card slot, but there is a separate headphone output.
Photographic ability has hardly changed. The telephoto lens did not appear, and the role of the main camera is still assigned to the Sony IMX686 sensor. Noise has not decreased, the same amount of detail is preserved during evening shooting. But the gadget attracts attention with stereo speakers , NFC contactless payments, Android 11, and an efficient CPU cooling system. As such, the device will definitely appeal to Android gamers looking to get the most out of their mobile assistant. The other part of the audience will be grieved by the overpriced, the size of the phablet, and mediocre cameras.
