Blackview Rock 5 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Blackview Rock 5 Overview
Blackview Rock 5 – durability, battery life, and nothing more?
The Chinese company Blackview continues to produce smartphones with IP68 water resistance, aimed at fans of large, rugged all-in-ones. However, while previously buyers were satisfied with the extreme durability and capacious battery of such mobile devices, their expectations have now become much higher. The subject of today's review partially meets these requirements, but still evokes mixed emotions due to a number of compromises made to keep the cost down.
The appearance of the new device is fairly standard for its class. It features a stylish photo module, a convenient side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a camping flashlight, and several attractive metal elements. However, one cannot help but notice the device's enormous size and, for many, its weight of 635 grams, which is critical. Operating such a device with one hand is very difficult. The 6.78-inch IPS screen is quite good. It offers a low, but still sufficient brightness for most scenarios, 700 nits, a 2460x1080 resolution that's ideal for the diagonal, natural color reproduction, and a modern 120Hz refresh rate.
The technical specifications include the now-obsolete MediaTek Helio G100 processor, 6GB/12GB of RAM, and a Mali G57-MC2 GPU. This combination lacks 5G support and achieves a performance score of 400,000 points in AnTuTu. The chipset is suitable for everyday use, but minor lags are still present in Android 16. Resource-intensive games like Genshin Impact are already frustrating with stuttering, regardless of the graphics preset. While playable, the experience will be limited. However, battery life is incredibly impressive thanks to the 20,000 mAh battery. A week of active use without recharging is a reality. However, you'll be leaving the phablet near a power outlet for hours. 256 GB of storage is available, with a microSD card slot.
Photography is mediocre. The 20-megapixel monochrome sensor with night vision won't be necessary for every user, and there are no wide-angle or telephoto lenses. The main 108-megapixel sensor without hybrid stabilization produces relatively detailed photos during the day, but evening shots are overwhelmed by noise and blur. Stereo sound is absent, but the single speaker is loud, so you won't miss a call. Music sounds spacious and has decent bass. NFC contactless payments are also a plus, but the device's technological backwardness, minimal ergonomics, and lackluster cameras are unlikely to make it a bestseller.
