Cubot KingKong 8 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Cubot KingKong 8 Overview
Cubot KingKong 8 - an inexpensive assistant in any business
The Chinese company Cubot knows how to make high-quality secure smartphones, which it has proven more than once in its KingKong line of devices. However, creating a truly relevant device at the border of low and medium price categories is a more difficult task, because over the past few years the market audience has become noticeably more demanding. But it seems that the developer was able to cope with the situation and give us an extremely interesting hero of the review.
The appearance of the new product is almost completely transferred from the Power model. There are both pros and cons to this. So, a triple photo module, a powerful flashlight at the top of the unit, a side fingerprint scanner and a 16-megapixel selfie camera located in the screen look good, but these words can no longer be attributed to the huge display frames, which exceed 2cm in thickness of the rubberized body. Of course, the dimensions of the all-in-one can be justified by moisture protection according to IP68 standards and battery capacity, but this will not improve the design and ergonomics. They definitely saved money on the 6.53-inch IPS panel. This is noticeable from the modest resolution of 1612x720 pixels and the mediocre brightness reserve. That is why it is recommended to work with the device indoors and not in direct sunlight.
The technical characteristics selected were MediaTek MT8788 CPU, 6GB of RAM, Mali G72MP3 video adapter. In fact, we have before us an analogue of the Helio P60 chipset, which recently celebrated its fifth anniversary. Yes, the processor scores more than 200 thousand points in the AnTuTu benchmark, but still sometimes the Android 13 interface disappoints with stutters and slight hesitation when launching applications. Gaming capabilities are limited, you shouldn’t dream of stable operation of Genshin Impact or Fortnite, but enjoying large-scale battles in World Of Tanks Blitz or Call Of Duty is more than possible. But they didn’t save at all on the amount of permanent memory. It is increased to 256GB and is expandable with MicroSD cards (hybrid slot).
Photo capabilities are rarely a competitive advantage of affordable IP68 phones. However, a bunch of 48-, 2- and 0.3-megapixel cameras are trying to correct this, although not always successfully. Thus, daytime shots are endowed with good detail, and there are also few artifacts in the photographs. Evening pictures are no longer free from noise, blur and other problems that are typical of simple photo modules without optical stabilization. There is no stereo sound, the only speaker is not particularly loud, and there is frankly not enough bass for comfortable listening to your favorite tracks. The list of advantages continues with a gyroscope, NFC contactless payments, and a 10600 mAh battery (up to 15-20 hours of active screen time). As a result, the gadget surpasses most opponents in the cost segment and definitely deserves attention.
