Cubot X19 Overview
Cubot X19 - balance in every detail
Every day smartphones are becoming more functional and more accessible. However, choosing a balanced mobile assistant is still quite difficult. In some devices, the developer forgot about autonomy, in others - about performance, in the third - about design. But sometimes even at a relatively small price, you can find a device in which there will be no obvious flaws. And one of these pleasant exceptions is a wonderful Cubot X19, to which today's review is dedicated. Let's take a look at what a stylish phablet from Kubot can please us.
By tradition, we will begin to consider the smartphone with its configuration and appearance. The device is delivered in a nice black box of high-quality thick cardboard, due to which damage to the phone during transportation is minimized. Yes, its lower bound can be seen quite detailed characteristics of the device. A USB cable (Type-C), a charger (2A 5V), beautiful instructions, supplemented with a number of other papers, an “opener” for a SIM-tray, a good silicone case come with the device. The quality of the latter pleases, it sits pretty tight on the device. It is quite possible that such a cover can protect the phone from small drops.
The very same gadget looks decent for its price. The display of 5.93 inches with an 18: 9 aspect ratio is almost devoid of frames, the back panel is made of polycarbonate, decorated with a dual camera and a fingerprint sensor . The smartphone itself is glossy. It looks great smoothly until the surface of the plastic collects your fingerprints. The side face is stylized as metal, but it looks like it is also polycarbonate. In terms of ergonomics Kubot keeps well done. With dimensions of 155.1 x 74.7 x 9.6 mm and a weight of 167 grams, the case is fairly easy to hold in one hand, the control also did not cause discomfort. In many ways, this is due to the rounded side faces. For girls, of course, the smartphone can be more for ease of use. In general, in the category “ Configuration and Design ”, the device deserves a “ top five with a minus”. Adding metal to the construction, as well as a protective film / glass and headphones to the kit would make the rating even higher.
We turn to the quality of the screen. The smartphone has a nice looking OGS panel with a diagonal of 5.93 inches . The resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels is enough for detailing the displayed image, the touch for 5 touches is quite responsive. Surprisingly, the glass has an oleophobic coating, though not the highest quality. For an inexpensive phone this is rare. The margin of brightness is impressive, in direct sunlight you can work with the device, but the glass itself glows very brightly, so you will see your reflection on the screen. The minimum brightness threshold is somewhat high for working with a gadget in the dark, which definitely cannot be written into the advantages of the display. The display of white color is good, there is a very small bias towards warmth. Auto-brightness work is almost always correct, however, in the conditions of room lighting, the OGS-panel likes to overestimate a little, and sometimes there is a drop in brightness and its return to the previous value in a few seconds. But part of the audience just like this situation. As a result, in the category “ Screen quality ” Cubot X19 also receives a “ top five with a minus”. It is unlikely that there are people who will be unhappy with the display device.
The technical parameters are good for an affordable phone. Let the combination of CPU and video card Mediatek MT6763 MaliG71MP2 and does not have sky-high performance, but provides a smooth and fast interface Android 8.1 operating system and is ready to boast excellent energy efficiency. It should be noted that the developer did not begin to create a proprietary shell or use any existing software modifications, so Androyd appears to us virtually naked. On the one hand, such a decision of the company has a positive effect on the speed of the phone, on the other - everything looks pretty standard, without frills. It should be noted and the presence of support for the device from the manufacturer. The other day on the phone “flew” OTA-update. Thus, software optimization occurs, which is worth writing in the pros. In games, Cubot X19 shows itself moderately, which is not surprising for a smartphone of lower-middle price line. Casual games and not the most resource-intensive applications run smartly, without any jams, but if you try to play the latest innovations like Asphalt 9, then the friezes and slowdowns are noticeable even at the minimum graphics settings. This is the merit of the FullHD + screen resolution, which is somewhat redundant for hardware.
No less popular and at the same time less demanding “Tanks” (World Of Tanks Blitz) are launched with low graphics settings and HD textures at about 50-60 frames per second with drops to 45 FPS. The gameplay is smooth, it is quite possible to enjoy the gameplay. In the benchmark Antutu 7.1.5, the gadget scored more than 90 thousand points, which is a good result for the “hardware” used. 4GB of RAM allows you not to worry about the early closure of previously running applications. A browser with 5-10 tabs, a player and a couple of graphically simple games did not collapse even after several hours of inactivity. Of course, there have been exceptions, but they are sometimes connected with the somewhat aggressive work of software to optimize energy consumption. 64GB of ROM is an extremely impressive internal storage for a relatively inexpensive device, so you should not worry about whether your favorite collections of apps, videos and music files fit in your smartphone. In addition, one of the SIM cards (2 NanoSIM cards) can be exchanged for a microSD card . The 32-gigabyte map was determined without any problems. Thus, by the criterion of “ Technical characteristics ”, the device is worthy of a solid “ four ”. For better evaluation, a more efficient processor is still needed.
The device copes with its direct telephone functions adequately. The interlocutor is heard remarkably, there is a small volume margin. Speech is transmitted quite naturally, perhaps a certain nuisance is added to the male voice. Nobody complained about audibility either, there were no problems in this regard. Wi-Fi connection does not cause questions. After 2 walls and 5-6 meters from the signal distributing device (laptop), the phablet did not lose connection. There were no problems with the connection either, the impression was that the reception was even slightly better than that of the metal ZTE Axon 7. The Internet connection almost always had 4G speeds, occasionally there were transitions to 2G, 3G standards. GPS was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the phone did not immediately connect to the satellites, the cold start required about 1.5 minutes of time, but Kubot connected immediately to 14 space objects in open areas with an error of only 2 meters. And the situation in the room is a little worse.
We will immediately touch the sound quality of both the main speaker and the headphone output. Unfortunately, loud device is difficult to call. With built-in call melodies that are 15-20% louder than percents, it is possible to hear the phone in a loud room when it is in a pants pocket. But if you put it in a bag, it is quite easy to miss an incoming call. The strength of the vibration is average. Developers should say a special thank you for the fact that in the presence of the USB Type-C port, they left their favorite 3.5mm jack. The device does not have a dedicated DAC and amplifier; their work is performed by the codec embedded in the Mediatek Helio P23 chip. However, the sound quality cannot be called quite bad, it is somewhat better than that of devices with the most budget processors from Mediatek (MT6580, MT6739). Of course, the power for “swinging” headphones with high resistance is not enough, there is not enough control of the bass, because of what it seems to be echoing in complex musical compositions, the sound also does not shine with detail. But the usual music lover of a similar sound level should suffice in the presence of high-quality headphones. In general, according to the criterion “ Telephone functions and sound ”, Cubot X19 deserves a strong “ four ”, and even “five with a minus”.
It is impossible not to consider the work of the sensors. In addition to the standard light and proximity sensor, an accelerometer, a gyroscope is installed in the device. Control in games using tilt (Asphalt 9) is smooth and responsive, no errors were observed. When you bring the phone to your head during a conversation, the display is always quenched, only once during the test did you have to put it again to your ear. The fingerprint scanner works well, correctly detecting about 17-18 touches out of 20. But you should take into account the fact that the fingerprint sensor does not like wet or dirty hands, often refusing to unlock the device in this case. So the fingers have to wipe. NFC in the gadget is missing, but for the lower-middle price segment, its presence is rather the exception to the rule. There is an indicator of missed events, which will allow you to learn more quickly about calls, messages and application alerts. As a result, in the category “Sensors”, the reviewed gadget deserves a rating of “five with a minus”.
We got to the photographic possibilities. The main 16 and 2-megapixel photo modules demonstrate a very good quality of shooting in daylight. Detailed images are very high for the price segment, the color rendition is close to natural. Shooting close objects also fails the sensors. As for moving objects, the cameras here are not perfect, although, as you can see in one of the photos, the bees flying around the flower were more or less clearly captured.
With room lighting, the amount of noise increases significantly, but the modules are struggling to maintain the detail of the photo.
At night, sensors capture a small amount of light, which is why it is difficult to call the quality of images poor, but it is problematic to see most of the objects on them. The LED flash works correctly, but the backlight power is low. As a flashlight device can be used, but for very short distances.
8-megapixel front-end is difficult to scold or praise. It provides the minimum level of photographic ability needed for capturing a selfie and changing a mirror. With the main sensors, that the front module records video in FullHD resolution, there is no stabilization. For daytime shooting of such results is enough. The function of determining faces is present, but it only works fully if there is at least some kind of lighting. Thus, in the “ Photographic Opportunities ” category, the device also showed itself with dignity. Taking into account the price, we can set a rating of “ four plus”.
It is impossible not to praise the autonomy of the smartphone. An impressive 4000mAh battery shows the following results:
- per hour of games in World Of Tanks Blitz with auto brightness, Wi-Fi connection and volume in 70% of the battery charge dropped by 16%;
- per night without a SIM card, with the Internet turned off, GPS and Wi-Fi, the battery is 1% discharged;
- per night with a SIM-card, with the Internet turned off, GPS and Wi-Fi, the battery is 2% discharged.
Thus, the user can expect approximately 1.5-2 days of active work with the gadget at 7 hours of screen time. The device is fully charged from the complete memory in about 2.5 hours.
Let's summarize the same. The company Cubot managed to create a very balanced smartphone, almost devoid of cons for the requested money. Of course, the device will not make a revolution in the market; for this, it lacks the best case materials, greater productivity and other things that can more strongly distinguish it against the background of numerous competitors. However, all fans of stylish, functional and autonomous X19 mobile assistants will definitely like it.
Advantages:
- nice looking exterior device;
- excellent frameless OGS-screen high resolution;
- good technical characteristics for the segment;
- large amount of internal storage;
