Huawei Mate Xs 2 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Huawei Mate Xs 2 Overview
Huawei Mate Xs 2 is a slow but correct form factor evolution
Folding smartphones, unfortunately, have not become a mass phenomenon over the years. Both the shortage of components and inflated price tags due to manufacturability, as well as a number of technical problems, played against them. The hero of today's review, released by the Chinese company Huawei, tried to correct the influence of the last two factors.
You can only fall in love with the design of the novelty. The main 7.8-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2480x2200 pixels, a 6.5-inch secondary screen, metal edging, an abundance of tempered glass and, of course, an excellent unfolding mechanism contribute to the perception of a great device. At the same time, even when folded, the phablet has a modest thickness of just over 11mm, which favorably affects ergonomics. Both AMOLED panels have a 120Hz refresh rate, stunning brightness and contrast, and built-in fingerprint sensors. However, you need to understand that the main AMOLED screen is not distinguished by a glass coating, but by a special plastic and a protective film, so you need to use it carefully.
The place of the processor is occupied by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, which is directly assisted by 8GB / 12GB of RAM and the Adreno 660 video adapter. The performance of the chipset is extremely high, it is impossible to notice HarmonyOS lags, even demanding applications function with excellent smoothness. However, it was not possible to fully curb the famous hot temper of the CPU, so hour-long intense battles in Genshin Impact or Fortnite will lead to throttling and, as a result, a visible deterioration in the frame rate. At the same time, the autonomy of the gadget is relatively good. The 4880mAh battery is ready to provide a stable day of interaction with a mobile assistant, while the recharging process is reduced to a reasonable 40-45 minutes (66W fast charging). Surprisingly, the expensive device also has a slot for MicroSD cards, which complements the 256/512GB UFS 3.1 ROM.
Fans of great photo opportunities will appreciate the combination of 50-, 13- and 8-megapixel sensors, including even a telephoto lens with a three-fold zoom. A hybrid stabilization system, high-quality lenses, impeccable camera software optimization lead to the fact that 99% of the shots will be amazing in detail and color reproduction, regardless of the lighting conditions. Stereo sound, a 10.7-megapixel selfie module, support for NFC contactless payments, and even an infrared port for controlling household appliances will be additional pluses of the phone, but it also hasserious drawbacks. Perhaps the most significant of these will be the lack of Google services and the potential fragility of the applied design. But such shortcomings are still not able to overshadow the impression of a wonderful device.
