Huawei Nova 15 Pro Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Huawei Nova 15 Pro Overview
Huawei Nova 15 Pro - Gradually Lagging Behind Competitors
It's surprising how the Chinese company Huawei, despite the numerous sanctions imposed on it, hasn't given up and is still actively competing with the smartphone market leaders. However, not every product from the brand is relevant. At times, stagnation is evident in certain product lines. For example, the hero of today's review looks less attractive compared to solutions from other manufacturers in its price segment. Let's explore how the new product falls short of its competitors.
The device's appearance is modern yet distinctive. The original design of the four photo modules and the ribbed texture of the rear glass panel make the exterior memorable. It's also hard not to praise the metal frame, the thin bezels of the display with a built-in fingerprint scanner, and the chamfered corners of the all-in-one design. However, the lack of IP68 water resistance is a downside; you definitely won't be swimming with this mobile assistant. The 6.84-inch AMOLED display raises fewer questions. It boasts an impressive 2856x1320 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate sufficient for smooth images, and realistic color reproduction. The peak brightness of 2500 nits is also unlikely to attract criticism.
However, the technical specifications, represented by the Kirin 9010s CPU, 12/16GB of RAM, and the Maleoon 910 GPU, are less impressive. A million points in AnTuTu is a mediocre result for this price range. While the HarmonyOS interface is lag-free, gamers are unlikely to be satisfied with the combination. Truly resource-intensive games won't run smoothly at maximum graphics settings; presets will need to be significantly reduced. Energy efficiency isn't record-breaking, but potential battery life issues are mitigated by the 6500mAh battery. You can expect 9-10 hours, or even more, of active screen time. It's a shame that wired charging is the only option, despite its high power (100W). Internal storage is 256GB, 512GB, or 1024GB.
In terms of photography, the device is, if not excellent, then very good. The main 50MP sensor and 12MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom feature hybrid stabilization, and they, along with the 13MP wide-angle lens, feature an RYYB color filter for greater detail in low-light shots. A ToF sensor provides additional assistance. Ultimately, even high-motion images don't significantly impact photo quality. Support for NFC and 5G networks add to the list of advantages, but a number of shortcomings, coupled with the lack of Google services, make one wonder whether this device is really necessary.
