Meizu 22 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Meizu 22 Overview
Meizu 22 – an ideal that will pass us by
Once upon a time, the Chinese company Meizu was a trendsetter in the smartphone market. The stunning FlymeOS user interface, the unique signature design, and the constant introduction of innovative competitive advantages (secondary displays, full-fledged headphone amplifiers, and more) set its gadgets apart from their competitors. Unfortunately, the company was hit by a long-term, multifaceted financial crisis. But it seems the developer has gradually begun to resolve these snowballing problems. It's a shame that masterpieces like the hero of today's review are only available in China.
The appearance of this new device is superb. The compact glass and metal body is ergonomic, characterized by thin screen bezels with an integrated fingerprint scanner, beautiful back panel colors, and a modern design for the photo module assembly. The 6.3-inch AMOLED panel offers a stunning 2670x1200 pixel resolution for a diagonal, delivering exceptional image clarity. Of course, it also boasts an impressive flagship refresh rate of 120 Hz, a fantastic peak brightness of 6000 nits, effective PWM mitigation (which is harmful to sensitive eyes), and realistic color reproduction.
The technical specifications include the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 CPU, 12 GB of RAM, and an Adreno 825 GPU, whose performance of two million points in the AnTuTu benchmark is not far behind top-end solutions. Not only is the Android 15 interface responsive, but all existing games run smoothly as well. Even resource-intensive games like Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero run flawlessly at maximum graphics settings. The 5510mAh battery is sufficient for a couple of days of mobile computing. Fast 80W wired charging and 66W wireless charging are also praiseworthy. Internal storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1024GB.
The cameras are also beyond reproach. Three 50-megapixel modules (the main Omnivision OV50H sensor, a Sony IMX882 telephoto lens (3x optical zoom) with hybrid stabilization, and a wide-angle OV50D lens) cover a wide range of shooting scenarios, including even evening photo sessions with lots of moving objects. Stereo speakers, NFC contactless payments, and 5G support round out the list of advantages, but for many users, the lack of FDD-LTE B7 and B20 models will be a critical drawback. As a result, 4G networks in many European and CIS countries will be unstable. Furthermore, there are untranslated apps and services. However, such shortcomings are unlikely to hinder the popularity of this excellent device.
