OUKITEL WP38 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
OUKITEL WP38 Overview
OUKITEL WP38 - how excessive savings spoil a potential hit
The Chinese company Oukitel is trying to significantly expand the range of inexpensive rugged smartphones, but not every attempt can be considered successful. The desire to reduce costs results in serious problems for many of the manufacturer’s models. So, the hero of today's review has suffered from display quality and photographic capabilities.
The design of phones with water resistance to IP68 standards is rarely interesting in the low and mid-price segments. There was no revolution with the new product, however, the exterior can be praised for the stylish block of photo modules, the side fingerprint scanner, and the beautiful texture of the case. It’s easy and simple to criticize the appearance for the large screen frames, the excessive thickness of the candy bar, and the outdated design of the 5-megapixel selfie camera. The 6.52-inch IPS panel causes controversial emotions. If the level of maximum brightness is not so bad compared to the solutions of opponents, and the color rendition is quite realistic, then the lack of an increased image refresh rate and the modest HD+ resolution cannot be considered an advantage.
The technical characteristics were a MediaTek MT8788 CPU, 6GB of RAM and a Mali G72MP3 video adapter. The combination guarantees performance sufficient to reproduce the Android 13 interface and launch applications without visible delays. The situation with games is not so clear. Game projects like PUBG Mobile that don’t require resources will launch with a smooth framerate, but you can’t hope for stable gameplay in Genshin Impact. The permanent memory was allocated as much as 256GB, and there is also a slot for MicroSD cards. This internal storage will definitely be enough for everyone.
But will it contain many photos and video files? It’s unlikely, because the main 13- and 2-megapixel photo sensors can barely cope with daytime photography. Even under such lighting conditions, color reproduction is not always ideal; sometimes frames are spoiled by an abundance of noise. The sound of the single speaker is mediocre, but you can listen to music using both wireless and wired headphones. The real competitive advantage of the phablet is the autonomy provided by the 10600 mAh battery. You will have to remember the location of the sockets every 3-4 days. NFC contactless payments are also present, so you can once again leave your wallet at home. As a result, the gadget turned out to be quite good, but far from perfect. And it seems that the sophisticated audience will not forgive him for a number of critical disadvantages.
