OUKITEL WP500 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
OUKITEL WP500 Overview
OUKITEL WP500 - a powerful but rather dull rugged smartphone
The Chinese company OUKITEL continues to release phones with IP68 water resistance across various price segments. Today's review is aimed at users who want a mobile assistant that's both durable and offers good battery life and near-excellent performance at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, other parameters raise questions.
The new device's appearance isn't the worst for its class, but the developer decided to keep the excessively large rubberized case and wide display bezels. The camera module is attractive, both color options look stylish, and there's a trendy camping flashlight included. The 6.8-inch IPS display has a peak brightness of 550 nits, which is still not enough for using the device in direct sunlight. Color reproduction is also somewhat dull when compared to AMOLED panels. However, image clarity is excellent thanks to the 2460x1080 resolution, and the smoothness at a 120Hz refresh rate is also excellent.
The technical specifications are impressive. The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 CPU, 12/24GB of RAM, and Mali G615-MC6 GPU are an excellent solution in every respect, combining decent power efficiency with the ability to immerse yourself in all existing applications and games at high or even maximum graphics settings. The renowned AnTuTu benchmark scores an impressive 1,400,000 points, though not a flagship level. The battery capacity is 10,000 mAh, so you can go about 3-4 days without needing to plug in. There's only wired charging, but at 45W, you only need to be away from the device for a couple of hours to reach the coveted 100% charge. Storage options include 512GB or 1024GB, and there's a microSD card slot.
It's a shame that, given all this, the photography capabilities are rather disappointing. The secondary sensors include a narrow-focus 8-megapixel night vision sensor and a 2-megapixel macro camera, which are clearly inferior in terms of usefulness to wide-angle and telephoto lenses. The main 108-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HM6 camera module lacks optical image stabilization, which significantly impacts the detail in evening photos. Daytime shots, however, are natural, without blur or noise. There's no stereo sound, but the situation is partially mitigated by a single large speaker with decent volume and pronounced bass. NFC contactless payments and 5G support round out the list of advantages, but a lack of originality, modest ergonomics, and mediocre photo capabilities will still prevent the gadget from becoming a bestseller.
