OnePlus Pad 2024 - a great device, but a bad continuation of the series?

Tablets from the Chinese company OnePlus can hardly be called the most popular in the world, but each of the models released by the manufacturer has found its user. Of course, any fan of the corporation would like to see noticeable improvements in the new generations of the device, but the developer decided to go a different way. And although the hero of today's review beats most opponents in the price segment, in a number of parameters it lags behind its predecessor.

The appearance of the new product has not undergone noticeable changes, but this fact can hardly be attributed to the disadvantages. The metal case pleasantly cools the palm and pleases with stylish colors, neat design of the photo module and the brand logo. The 11.61-inch IPS display located in front has not extremely thin, but uniform frames around the entire perimeter. The display is easier to praise than to criticize. Peak brightness is not bad for the technology used (800 nits) and allows you to see the image under direct sunlight, the resolution of 2800x2000 pixels is enough for excellent image clarity, pleasing also with smoothness at a 144-Hz refresh rate. It could not do without a well-tuned color rendition, an oleophobic layer even on the protective film.

With technical characteristics, not everything is so clear. The MediaTek Dimensity 8350 CPU (8GB/12GB RAM and Mali G615MC6 video adapter) is more productive than the 9000th chip used in the first Pad, but weaker than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. However, the result of 1,400,000 points in the AnTuTu test will be enough not only for the smooth functioning of the Android 15 interface (OxygenOS shell), but also for all existing games at maximum or close to them graphic settings. The energy efficiency of the chipset is improved, so you can expect up to one and a half to two days of operation from the 9520 mAh battery. Fast charging at 67W is installed for a reason: staying near the outlet is reduced to 60-70 minutes. 128/256/512 GB of permanent memory is allocated, there is no slot for MicroSD cards.

The gadget's photo capabilities can hardly be assessed positively. The 8-megapixel main and front cameras are more suitable for video calls than for artistic photography. Even daytime shots will not always be detailed, and sometimes will disappoint with an excess of noise. But the stereo sound of four speakers is very loud and rich, inexpensive Bluetooth speakers can safely be left at home. Also among the advantages, we will highlight the high-speed USB Type-C V3.2 port, a gyroscope. But support for SIM cards never appeared. But it could have turned a simply good device into a future bestseller.
