TECLAST ArtPad Pro Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
TECLAST ArtPad Pro Overview
TECLAST ArtPad Pro - steps in the right direction
Modern mobile electronics have become much more versatile, suitable for almost all categories of users. However, such unification of functionality, and often design, has led to the monotony of devices. But sometimes you really want to get an original assistant, noticeably standing out against the background of similar gadgets. The ArtPad Pro tablet from the Chinese company TECLAST tries to be one. And sometimes the device does it very well.
Brief characteristics of Teclast ArtPad Pro:
Case materials: front panel - glass, back panel - metal;
- screen: IPS technology, 12.7-inch diagonal, resolution 2176x1600 pixels;
- processor: MediaTek Helio G99, video chip: Mali-G57 MP2;
- RAM/ROM: 8GB (+8GB due to ROM) / 256GB;
- operating system: Android 15;
- battery: 10000mAh, 30W charger;
- main camera: 13MP + 2MP;
- front camera: 8MP;
- sound: stereo speakers, 4 pcs;
- navigation: GPS/GLONASS/Beidou/Galileo;
- dimensions and weight: 279 x 211 x 7.2 mm, 674 g;
- support for two SIM cards.
The device greets the buyer with a fairly large box made of thick white cardboard, pleasing with a high-quality print of the tablet itself, as well as a multi-colored name of the Art series on the side. Inside, it is easy to find both the hero of the review itself and a fairly rich package. It includes:
- a charger with a maximum power of 30W;
- USB cable;
- a needle for opening the SIM tray;
- a protective film for the display (already on the screen);
- instructions and warranty card;
- a branded stylus that works 2048 degrees of touch of the display (availability depends on the configuration of the device).
Perhaps, the list lacks only wired headphones or an OTG adapter for a headset with a standard audio jack. But it is necessary to understand that in similar tablets from competing companies such an accessory can be found only in isolated cases.
Assessment of the package - 4.5/5.
The appearance of the TECLAST ArtPad Pro leaves positive emotions. The display frames, which are small for the class of devices in question, are immediately noticeable, and are also uniform around the entire perimeter of the screen. The neat metal case has a modest thickness of almost 7 mm, which also has a positive effect on ergonomics. There is no fingerprint scanner, but the device can be unlocked by face recognition. The eye of the 8-megapixel front camera is located outside the display, in one of the frames, it is almost invisible. Let's consider what functional elements are on each of the edges.
- The upper edge contains volume buttons, an Art Space button for changing color modes of image playback, a tray for SIM cards and memory cards, and two holes for microphones.
- On the right edge, there are holes for two speakers, a USB Type-C port;
- The lower edge is devoid of functional elements;
- The left edge has a power button and a couple of holes for speakers.
The only downside to the exterior is the beautiful, but still easily soiled texture of the back panel, which easily collects fingerprints.
Design rating - 4.5/5.
The 12.7-inch IPS display is definitely one of the main competitive advantages of the TECLAST ArtPad Pro. The resolution of 2176x1600 pixels “on paper” does not seem outstanding, but at the same time small fonts and icons do not look blurry or loose. The only thing you can find fault with is the standard refresh rate of 60 Hz. But in other respects, the screen is extremely pleasing. Firstly, the touch panel used is responsive and accurate, clearly better than that of many inexpensive tablets. Secondly, the brightness reserve is quite good for an IPS panel, even in direct summer sunlight the picture remains partially visible. Thirdly, the proximity and light sensors work correctly, the auto brightness does not raise any questions. Fourthly, the color rendition is rich, natural, the image does not lose at tilt angles. Rather for show, there is a separate Art Space key on one of the edges of the device, which allows you to select one of three color rendition presets.
Standard mode - the name speaks for itself.
Ink mode - suitable for reading e-books.
Pastel mode - the best energy efficiency, suitable for reading comics and graphic content.
In reality, this function serves more for the user's entertainment than to provide a truly different experience of using the tablet. But let's consider the capabilities of TECLAST ArtPad Pro specifically for artists and test them using the Autodesk Sketchbook application. We take the stylus in our hands and check its functionality.
Let's check the sensitivity of the stylus. Depending on the pressure applied, the thickness and saturation of the line drawn changes significantly, everything works more than correctly.
We check the stability of the stylus. When drawing a long diagonal line, there are no gaps even when the pressure is weakened/increased.
Stylus lag. At high drawing speeds, there is a lag between the line and the stylus movement, but it is not considered significant, it is tenths of a second.
At the edges of the display, rendering occurs without any problems, without gaps or insensitive areas.
When drawing with a stylus at an angle, the shape of the stroke changes, and there are several levels of shading.
The sensitivity is excellent, drawing with a stylus is really similar to drawing with a pencil or brush. The author, being far from being an artist, was able to create a literally photorealistic portrait of a cat in just a few minutes.
But a person who already has artistic skills can create a similar drawing in 15-20 minutes.
Of the minor minuses - a special glove for the palm is highly recommended to avoid possible touching of the display when drawing. Unfortunately, it is not included in the kit.
Rating of the display and artistic capabilities of the tablet - 5/5.
The technical characteristics of the tablets are quite ordinary for the price segment MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, working in tandem with 8 GB of RAM, and Mali G57MC2 video adapter. The bundle is still functional, but its relevance is not so obvious. Let's consider the results of passing synthetic tests.
- in the AnTuTu v10 benchmark, the processor scores 398711 points;
- in the GeekBench 6 benchmark, the CPU received 727 points in single-core and 1988 points in multi-core mode;
- PCMark Work 3.0 Working Test showed a result of 9110 points.
But let's move on to games. The situation with them is far from outstanding, but it can't be considered frankly bad either.
In Genshin Impact, known for its resource-intensive nature and its huge open world, you can enjoy the gameplay at low graphics settings and an FPS limit of 30 frames per second. There may be minor freezes and framerate drops in intense battles, but 95% of the time the user will get stable and smooth gameplay, although the picture will seem a little soapy and plastic.
Tank Company is an equally demanding project from friends in China, trying their best to copy the World Of Tanks game for personal computers. Yes, the textures are not as detailed, the tank models are simplified, but the 15 vs 15 player battles are preserved, and many maps have been transferred with only minimal changes. At low graphics settings, the gamer will get 28-30 FPS in third-person mode and about 20-30 FPS in aiming mode. Framerate drops usually occur either in very tense moments of battles, or when an abundance of greenery gets into the gunner's lens. Overall, it is comfortable to play, although the gameplay cannot be considered ideal
.
With PUBG Mobile, everything is noticeably better, because the game is already quite a few years old, and its graphics are somewhat simpler. However, the huge open spaces are impressive even today, as are the realistic textures. Set the graphics to “maximum” and you get a good 40 FPS in 99% of cases with minor drops during loading of new parts of the location.
Of course, the performance of MediaTek Helio G99 is enough to play the Android 15 OS, especially since the manufacturer has not modernized the standard shell too much. Lags happen rarely, applications launch in a split second.
Performance rating - 4/5.
Of course, one of the main components of a successful tablet is its autonomy. And with TECLAST ArtPad Pro it has no problems, however, the gadget does not set records. Thanks to the 10,000mAh battery, the user can quite realistically count on 5-7 hours of active screen time, including even resource-intensive tasks, with a day and a half of operation.
In everyday life, we get:
- about 4 hours of gameplay in Genshin Impact (the battery lost 25% in an hour);
- about 5 hours of gameplay in Tank Company (the battery lost 20% in an hour);
- about 6.5 hours of gameplay in PUBG Mobile (the battery lost 16% in an hour).
In the PCMark Work 3.0 Battery Test at about 50% brightness and 50% volume, the phone gave 9 hours of screen time. The result is not outstanding, but there are suspicions of some incompatibility between TECLAST and this benchmark, since several attempts at testing were accompanied by crashes of the application due to various errors.
The 30W charger does not disappoint and even gives somewhat unexpected results. From 3 to 100%, the charging process took only 2 hours 25 minutes, which is a decent result for a capacious battery. There is almost no heating of the device.
Battery life/charging speed rating - 4/5.
If the front 8-megapixel camera is designed exclusively for video communication, then the main 13-megapixel sensor is ready to give decent daytime artistic shots. Of course, in terms of detail and color rendering, this is not the level of even modern phones for 10 thousand rubles, but there are no frankly unsuccessful photos. Autofocus works correctly, shots are taken in a split second, the photo shoot does not require strong games with exposure. There is not as much noise, highlights and blurs as there could be.
Rating of photo capabilities - 4/5.
Let's talk about the sound of the tablet. Four speakers are installed in TECLAST ArtPad Pro not for show. They produce relatively loud (about 90 dB) and rich sound with noticeable, but not critical distortions at maximum. If you lower the threshold to 80-85 dB, then you can leave an inexpensive BlueTooth speaker at home to rest. There is a bit of “dirt” at high frequencies, but the bass is audible. There is no separate jack for wired headphones, but a modern wireless headset will reveal its potential thanks to support for the LDAC codec in addition to the standard SBC, AAC.
Sound rating - 4.5/5.
Finally, there are the telephone functions of TECLAST ArtPad Pro. They are provided with support for two SIM cards. For calls, there is only speakerphone, even when the volume is set to minimum, people around you will hear all the details of the conversation, you need to understand this fact. There are no complaints about the connection, the reception is at the level of an average inexpensive phone. The interlocutor did not complain about the quality of the reception. With WiFi, the gadget is also normal, through 2 walls and about 7-8 meters from the router, the Internet connection functioned without noticeable problems.
It is possible and even necessary to use the tablet as a navigator. Yandex Maps worked perfectly, and GPS Test shows excellent results even indoors in cloudy weather. For some reason, GPS navigation in the device is better than that of devices with a similar chipset.
Communication and navigation score - 5/5.
Let's summarize the review and list the main pros and cons of the gadget.
Pros:
- stylish thin metal case with a well-designed design;
- very rich package (in the full version with a stylus);
- high-quality components, especially the branded stylus deserves praise;
- not bad for the price segment MediaTek Helio G99 processor and 8 GB of RAM;
- 256 GB of internal memory, expandable with MicroSD cards;
- support for two SIM cards;
- high speaker volume (90 dB) coupled with decent sound quality;
- good main camera for the class of the device;
- good battery life at the level of 7-8 hours of active screen time;
- no problems with communication and navigation;
- impressive capabilities of the device for artists.
Disadvantages:
- the display lacks a higher refresh rate;
- there is no separate headphone jack;
- the MediaTek Helio G99 processor is still starting to get old;
- the 10,000mAh battery does not yet provide the level of autonomy that it could potentially provide with good software optimization.
Thus, the final impression of TECLAST ArtPad Pro is extremely positive. The tablet will please both an ordinary user and an amateur artist gaining experience for future professional activity with its design, functionality and other parameters. This is a pleasant device in all respects, which is definitely recommended for purchase.
