TECLAST P40HD Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Teclast P40HD Overview
Teclast P40HD - progress that is easy to see
The Chinese company Teclast was able to firmly occupy the niche of inexpensive, but high quality tablets, in which it tries to keep almost no one. Surprisingly, the developer actively develops a range of such devices, and each new device tries not to be inferior to its predecessor, and in some ways even surpass it. The hero of today's review, called Teclast P40HD, noticeably advances the manufacturer's P-series of tablets in a number of ways.

The standard package includes not only the tablet, but also a protective film on its display, USB cable format USB Type-C, charger 5V 2A, user manual and warranty card. Separately, you can buy a protective flip cover. It firmly covers the back panel of the device and is able to protect the screen glass from cracks and chips if you drop the gadget. The front of the case is styled as leather, pleasant to the touch. The quality of the attached accessories is high, their list lacks only wired headphones, because the necessary connector in the tablet has. But the democratic price tag of the device indicates that the small compromises were worth it.
Of course, the main attention during the first unpacking will be paid to Teclast P40HD itself. Its design is beautiful and relevant for an affordable mobile assistant. First of all, the back panel and the bezel are made of metal. This fact not only positively affects the durability, but gives additional appeal to the exterior and allows you to forget about the real price of the tablet. Secondly, the front surface is not the widest frame of the display, only slightly more than a centimeter. The dark gray coloring of the gadget is also well chosen. They look stylish, does not leave a lot of fingerprints. Thus, in terms of beauty of appearance Teclast P40HD is definitely of interest.
One of the most important components of a quality tablet is the display. The device in question has a 10.1-inch screen made using IPS technology. The matrix has a medium brightness level, which is more than enough to work indoors, but the bright sun in May still takes away a significant part of the visibility of the displayed image. Backlight uniformity is good, scenes with black backgrounds played in the evening do not cause negative emotions. Resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels perfectly combines with the chosen diagonal of the developer, the picture is clear, small fonts are devoid of artifacts or blurring. At angles of inclination the screen loses brightness, but there is virtually no color distortion. Touch-panel supports 10 touches, it is responsive, no problems with multitouch, as well as phantom presses the sensor. But on Auto Brightness have spared, so before you turn off the light or, conversely, going out in the sunlit street will have to adjust the brightness level yourself. But in the end presented IPS-panel still deserves high marks.
The heart of the tablet is its specifications. The P40HD did not skimp on them significantly. The processor UNISOC Tiger T606 is still one of the best chipsets in the low price range. Its eight cores are based on ARM Cortex-A75 architecture, and the video gas pedal chosen Mali G57MC1, far outperforming its counterparts in the low-end CPU Qualcomm and MediaTek. The developer has also added 6GB of RAM, thanks to which the speed of the operating system Android 12 has increased significantly, and running applications are not unloaded from memory for much longer. It is also worth noting the good gaming capabilities of the applied components.
PUBG Mobile is quite demanding to resources of smartphones and tablets because of the increased range of drawing the environment, because the gameplay of this shooter is largely based on the need to constantly analyze the terrain and fighting with enemies on a short and long range. At medium graphics settings gameplay is smooth, the output picture does not cause negative emotions. Freezes when loading a new part of the location rarely appear, freemotion rate is stable.
Call Of Duty also has no problems with playability. Here you can already set the average graphics settings at high freemium. Minor lags once every minute or two sometimes occur, but they rarely affect gameplay. The game itself looks nice, there are no blurry textures or pixelated objects.
As for synthetic tests, the Teclast P40HD scores 234794 points in the AnTuTu 9.6.1 benchmark.
In the Geekbench 6 test, the processor from UNISOC shows 370 points in the single-core test and 1,301 points in the multi-core test.
Of course, it is impossible to imagine testing chipsets without CPU Throttling Test. 30 minutes of testing, 100 threads - such conditions did not result in CPU throttling. The average performance result was 142.3 GIPS.
One of the competitive advantages of the device is its support for 4G communication and two SIM cards. The author of the review used MTS and Rostelecom cards. During the calls no problems were found in both cases. The interlocutors easily understood the speech, complaints about the quality of the microphone were not observed. It is possible to communicate only on speakerphone, so people around you can hear your conversation. If you want a private conversation, you will have to use headphones. As for the Internet connection, everything is also decent. Teclast P40HD here was not inferior to Realme GT2 and OnePlus 9RT smartphones, demonstrating a similar reception. But the WiFi connection is weaker than that of the above-mentioned phones. While the smartphones retain the connection without problems through two walls, the tablet actually lost it.
As for the performance of GPS and GLONASS, everything is good. Corresponding testing showed the following results.
Indoors, the tablet was able to connect to 9 satellites in a minute, the accuracy of positioning was at 15 meters. Outdoors, the situation improved. Now the position error in space was reduced to 7 meters, and the number of connected satellites was 16. Other details you can see in the screenshots below.
Photos from the main camera
Front Camera Photo
On the photo capabilities of the tablet were spared to contain its cost. It is unlikely that there are many people who buy this type of device for photos and video, but the main 5-megapixel camera is unlikely to please even the unpretentious buyer. Obtained photos are often overexposed, you can see the obvious blur and loss of detail even in the daytime. Only skill and a few takes help to get satisfactory pictures. Thus, the main task of this photomodule is rather an aid for video communication. The 2-megapixel front sensor also fits this description. It is possible to take selfies with it, but the result will require a lot of effort.
Teclast P40HD has two speakers for sound reproduction. It is difficult to complain about the volume, because its peak values reach 90dB, while the average values are set at 85-88dB. However, the frequency response cannot be considered smooth. Clearly lacking the lower frequencies, there are problems with the peaks in the upper middle frequencies. Therefore, ideally, it is better to set the volume to around 75-80db, then the tablet presented a rather pleasant sound even in saturated music tracks. The sound in wired headphones is not bad, in general, is pleased with the presence of a separate connector, from which today everyone is trying to get rid of. With wireless headphones the situation is slightly worse. Thus, from the modern codecs supported only SBC, because of what the same Mifo O5 II Gen 2 with the device in question sounded easier at low and high frequencies than with smartphones with AptX support.
The battery capacity of 6000mAh is responsible for the tablet's battery life. Energy efficient processor from UNISOC allows you to get good results on battery life in tests, as well as in real life. If you use the device for web surfing, undemanding games and messengers, you can get about 6 hours of active screen time (70% of the time - WiFi-connection, 30% of the time - 4G). In demanding games like PUBG Mobile you should expect about 4.5 hours of gameplay.
The PCMark 3.0 Battery Test benchmark shows a result of 7 hours and 24 minutes at 70% brightness and 50% volume, indicating that you don't have to charge the battery several times a day.
Let's list the main pros and cons of the gadget in question.
Pros:
- The metal body is not devoid of interesting design;
- A good 10.1-inch IPS-screen resolution FullHD +;
- A protective film on the display;
- Processor UNISOC Tiger T606 and 6GB RAM allows you to try a lot of games;
- good stereo sound;
- 128GB ROM expandable;
- support for two SIM cards;
- No problems with reception;
- operable GPS;
- low price;
- Jack for wired headphones.
Cons:
- mediocre cameras;
- not bad, but not outstanding battery life, complemented by slow charging;
- no case in the standard package;
- no oleophobic coating.
Thus, the Teclast P40HD is the best tablet of the P-series. It combines a quality screen, decent performance and excellent functionality, which is not always available in the lower price segment (SIM card support, headphone jack, GPS, etc.). If you do not have a serious need for photography, you will definitely like this device.
