TECLAST T40 Pro 2023 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Teclast T40 Pro 2023 Overview
Teclast T40 Pro 2023 - everything you need for a reasonable price
Tablets have been and remain a relevant type of mobile electronics. Compactness with a large display diagonal, wide functionality, excellent autonomy are only part of the reasons why the audience chooses such devices. In addition, over the past few years, the price tag for such devices has dropped significantly, thanks to which literally every user can now find a mobile assistant to their liking and wallet. The hero of today's review belongs to the low-middle cost category, however, both with a quick acquaintance and long-term use, it is hard to believe in such a democratic price.

I would like to start considering Teclast T40 Pro 2023 with its configuration. The manufacturer tried to maintain a reasonable cost of the device, so the list of accessories supplied with it is not so large. Inside a beautiful box made of thick white cardboard is the tablet itself with protective films already applied to the front and back panels, a USB cable, a paperclip to open the SIM tray, a 20W charger, a user manual and a warranty sheet (most likely, it is relevant only for China). The above list lacks a case and / or headphones, but it must be understood that most opponents of the gadget also do not have them in the kit. The quality of the accessories is at a high level, it is impossible to find fault with their performance. Thus, for the configuration of the T40 Pro 2023, it receives a confident 4/5.
The design of the tablet is good for the price range. Before us is a weighty, but at the same time beautiful and ergonomic metal monoblock with a 10.4-inch IPS display. The screen bezels are noticeable, but small for an inexpensive tablet. The dark gray color scheme looks stylish, the rear panel in a minimalist style is decorated with the developer's logo and the main camera lens. The device fits comfortably in the hands, its dimensions and weight are optimal for long-term use, after an hour of gameplay there was no discomfort. On the top side there are holes for two speakers and a hybrid tray for SIM cards or MicroSD cards, on the left side there are power and volume buttons, a USB Type-C port, and on the bottom there are holes for two additional speakers. Among the shortcomings, we note the lack of a jack for wired headphones, you will have to use wireless counterparts. As a result, the appearance of the novelty is pleasing to the eye, the build quality is not worse than that of even more expensive opponents.
Indoor display brightness
Outdoor display brightness
The 10.4-inch IPS panel used was a positive experience. Firstly, there are no color distortions at tilt angles, only a drop in brightness, which is standard for the type of matrices used, is observed. Secondly, the high resolution of 2000x1200 pixels makes it impossible to see individual pixels with the naked eye. The margin of brightness is more than sufficient for indoors, but in the open air the situation changes. On a clear winter day at 100% brightness, it is easy to see what is happening on the display of the device, but for the direct rays of the summer sun, visibility can be significantly reduced. The uniformity of the backlight is not bad, there are only minor highlights on a dark background. The black color, of course, is not as good as on AMOLED counterparts, but you can’t call it gray either. The stock protective film and glass on it with a minimal oleophobic coating, the finger glides well, but inexpensive tablets are still far from the comfort of flagship smartphones. The touch panel is responsive, up to 10 simultaneous touches are supported. No phantom touches or other bugs were found during the testing period. Perhaps someone will miss the increased refresh rate of the picture, however, good software optimization and fairly productive technical characteristics allow the operating system to function smoothly and quickly. Separately, I would like to praise the device for the presence of a light sensor. Auto brightness works pretty well. Of course, sometimes there are errors (too high a brightness level in a dark room or a long change in brightness in new lighting conditions), but they are difficult to consider significant. In addition, smartphones of the middle and even higher price segment sometimes behave much worse. In general, the installed IPS display deserves a very high rating, given the price of Teclast T40 Pro 2023.
The technical characteristics were the UNISOC Tiger T616 processor, 8GB of RAM and the Mali G57MC1 graphics adapter. The CPU is equipped with two powerful ARM Cortex-A75 cores with a frequency of 2GHz and six energy-efficient ARM Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency of 1.8GHz. Let's go through the benchmarks.
In the popular benchmark AnTuTu Benchmark v9.5.6, the gadget scores 264432 points. This is a decent result for a low-mid price tablet.
The GeekBench 6 scores 430 points in a single-threaded test and 1577 points in a multi-threaded test.
The CPU Throttling Test was run at 100 threads for 20 minutes. The average performance result reached a value of 165 GIPS, no drop in performance due to throttling was found at all. These figures indicate both the relevance of the CPU for most tasks, and its stability during long work.
However, the true performance of the device can be judged in gaming applications. The racing arcade Asphalt 9 works well with the “High quality” graphic presets, but sometimes the FPS counter drops noticeably. If you select the “Standard” preset, then the jamming during subloads is minimal, the frame rate is stable.
PUBG Mobile functions without any problems at the maximum available graphics settings (graphics “High”, frame rate “High”). The frame rate is stable, shooting does not affect the smoothness of the reproduced picture. On a 10.4-inch display, it is much more convenient to aim at rivals than on a small smartphone screen.
But Genshin Impact, designed for flagship processors, shows itself noticeably weaker. To achieve more or less smooth gameplay with rare friezes, it will be possible with minimal (around 25-28 frames per second) or low (around 20-25 frames per second) graphic presets. Unfortunately, the beauty of the project partially evaporates for the most part, fortunately, the game can also boast of wonderful gameplay.
Do not forget about the emulators of the once popular set-top boxes. So, there is a very high-quality PSP pocket emulator called PPSSPP. At 3X resolution, the tablet can easily cope with such hits as Tekken Dark Resurrection, Burnout Legends, Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core. The gameplay in such games is still extremely relevant, it is extremely easy to enjoy. The only thing is that you need to force the speed to 100% for emulation, otherwise the emulator consistently gave out 92% of the full speed in games, a frameskip was needed. Most likely, this bug will be fixed in the next update. The heating of the tablet even after long gaming sessions is negligible, the back panel is only slightly warm.
The 7000mAh battery charges from 1% to 100% in about 3 hours and 15 minutes. This is more than a good indicator for a battery of this capacity. The autonomy of the device is average, corresponds to the indicators of opponents, but does not exceed them. In resource-intensive games like Genshin Impact, PUBG Mobile can be counted on for about 4 hours of gameplay, in less demanding games (PPSSPP emulator) already for 7 hours. As for the usual mode of using the tablet, the device functions for about a day and a half with 5-5.5 hours of active screen time, which will include web surfing, watching videos, games, calls. Benchmark PCMark 3.0 Battery Test at auto-brightness gave a result of 9 hours and 11 minutes. In general, the operating time of the device from a single battery charge is not satisfactory.
The tablet supports calls and 4G networks. The quality of communication reception is not bad, it is about the same level as that of average smartphones (Realme GT Neo, OnePlus 9RT). The interlocutor is heard through the main speakers on the speakerphone. On the one hand, the audibility of the voice is excellent, on the other hand, the people around will definitely be aware of your conversation.
The tablet is characterized by stereo sound, the number of speakers has reached as many as four pieces. The maximum sound volume is high (on average 86db with rises up to 89db), however, there is still an emphasis on medium and mid-high frequencies. It is still recommended to retreat a couple of divisions from the maximum. In this case, the sound is more balanced, you can even enjoy listening to not the most complex music. The chipset used supports Bluetooth 5.0, the Fiil T1 Lite and Mifo O5 II Gen 2 plug-in headphones functioned stably, there were no disconnections or artifacts in the sound.
The GPS test showed decent results. Firstly, the search for satellites even indoors took about 15-20 seconds. Secondly, the accuracy indicators both indoors and outdoors turned out to be excellent, the tablet can be used as a navigator.
GPS operation indoors
GPS operation in open areas
The photographic possibilities of the main 13-megapixel camera are not limitless, but with some skill, the user will be able to capture detailed daytime photos. Transmitted colors lack saturation, but the result is still good for an inexpensive tablet. The 8-megapixel selfie camera is much weaker. Her main duty is to make video calls; it is unlikely that she will be able to get photos for social networks with her help. However, the very possibility of implementing this kind of data transfer is already pleasing.
