Tecno Camon 50 Ultra – a Bid for Success

It's hard to classify the Chinese company Tecno as a market leader in smartphones, but it's hard to ignore the speed with which the manufacturer is gaining a following. While just a few years ago the brand's products were associated exclusively with low-quality, low-end phones, today the developer's gadgets offer worthy competition even to rivals from Realme and Xiaomi. And today's review subject even outperforms its direct competitors in a number of areas.

The new device's appearance is stylish and quite memorable. The beautifully designed photo module block, distinguished as a distinct design element by graceful lines on the back panel, and the thin display bezels with rounded edges of the protective glass make the exterior extremely attractive. It also boasts IP68 water resistance. Perhaps the only drawback is the widespread use of plastic, albeit high-quality. The 6.78-inch AMOLED panel boasts not only an integrated fingerprint scanner but also crisp, detailed images at a 2644x1208 pixel resolution, increased fluidity at a 144 Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 3000 nits, and realistic color reproduction.

Compared to the Pro version, the device's performance has been improved. The MediaTek Dimensity 7400 processor, 8GB/12GB of RAM, and Mali G615MC2 graphics accelerator are close to 700,000 points in AnTuTu, so there's no need to worry about the stability of Android 16. Modern games are also a must-have. However, for truly resource-intensive games (Fortnite, Genshin Impact, Zenless Zone Zero, and the like), it's recommended to significantly reduce graphics settings to achieve a comfortable frame rate without lag. The storage is available in 256GB/512GB configurations. Battery life is also important, thanks to a 6500mAh battery. It delivers approximately 10-12 hours of active screen time, and wired charging is available at 45W.

In terms of photography capabilities, the device strives to be among the best in its class. The excellent 50MP Sony LYT700C main sensor and Omnivision 3x optical zoom telephoto lens (also 50MP) feature hybrid image stabilization and are capable of handling even evening shots. While this isn't flagship-level photography, there's minimal noise and the detail is preserved. The 8MP wide-angle lens, however, is quite basic and unlikely to garner any compliments. However, the 50MP front-facing camera features autofocus and will definitely appeal to selfie enthusiasts. Contactless payments, NFC, 5G, and an IR port round out the list of advantages of this, to say the least, interesting device.
