UMIDIGI G2 - an unremarkable smartphone

The Chinese company Umidigi often surprises with its products, but this surprise is not always caused by positive emotions. So, along with competitive phones, a developer can release an absolutely mediocre product without any advantages. Such was the hero of today's review.

The appearance of the novelty is not bad, but there are enough flaws in it. If the colors of the cases, their shape, the design of the dual camera and the display frames that are reasonable for the price category look decent, then such things cannot be said about the absence of a fingerprint sensor, the plastic of the back panel, which is not the most pleasant from a tactile point of view. The 6.52-inch IPS screen is not very bright, and the resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels is not enough for the clarity of small fonts. Of course, the IPS panel of an affordable gadget is not endowed with an oleophobic coating.

Productive specifications for the segment could save the phablet from failure, but the outdated MediaTek Helio A22 processor, only 3GB of RAM and the PowerVR GE8320 video core cannot be called as such. The bundle scores a modest 100,000 points in the AnTuTu benchmark and is not characterized by outstanding gaming capabilities. You can play only undemanding games, and even then with stripped-down graphic presets. Android 13 also functions with lags, launching applications sometimes takes a few seconds. The size of the internal storage is 32GB, so you can't do without a microSD card. Unfortunately, the slot is hybrid, so you have to sacrifice one of the SIM cards. But on the autonomy of the device will give odds to opponents. Batteries in 5150mAh will ask you to look for an outlet only after a couple of days.

Fans of high-quality photography need to either look towards more expensive alternatives, or put up with the photo capabilities of the installed 13- and 2-megapixel photosensors. Even in sunny weather, it is not always possible to create a detailed frame without blurring and noise. The deterioration of lighting reduces the chances of a good photo to a minimum. The only speaker is not very loud, but it is hardly possible to miss a call or a message with it. The manufacturer also saved on NFC, so the mobile assistant will not help out with contactless payments in supermarkets. Thus, we have a device that is difficult to praise for anything even with its affordable price tag.
