Ulefone Note 14 - beautiful but useless?

The Chinese company Ulefon continues to expand the range of its smartphones in the low price segment, but it does not always have time to follow the demands of the audience. Potential buyers over the years have become noticeably more demanding even of inexpensive devices in terms of performance and functionality. Unfortunately, in these aspects, the hero of today's review is bad, and it is impossible to atone for such shortcomings only by the beauty of the exterior.

As noted above, everything is in order with the design and the novelty. The only surprising thing is the lack of a fingerprint scanner with a recessed side on / off button, which is entirely redeemed by a well-thought-out dual camera unit, juicy rich colors of tactilely pleasant plastic cases and reasonable display frames. The 6.52-inch IPS display will not be a revelation even for an inexperienced user. The modest resolution of the HD + picture, the same margin of brightness and mediocre contrast narrow down the list of scenarios for using an IPS panel. In direct sunlight, the image is almost invisible.

Specifications are puzzling. The frankly outdated MediaTek Helio A22 processor could have been replaced with a much more powerful counterpart from UNISOC, but this did not happen. As a result, the CPU, even together with 3GB / 4GB of RAM and the PowerVR GE8320 video accelerator, will not please with smooth gameplay in more or less modern three-dimensional games, as well as with the responsiveness of the Android 12 interface. day. The size of the internal storage is 16GB or 64GB depending on the version of the device. Of course, it is recommended to purchase the latter option, and do not forget about MicroSD cards.

The main photomodules also vary. The 2-megapixel depth sensor is the same everywhere, but the 13- and 8-megapixel modules are noticeably different. So, a more technologically advanced photosensor in the older configuration makes detailed daytime shots without blurring much more often. Evening shots are equally terrible in both situations. There are no NFC contactless payments, a fairly quiet mono speaker also cannot be written into competitive advantages. Thus, the considered gadget really relies solely on a successful appearance, which is still not enough for commercial success.
