Vernee X2 Review: specs and features, camera quality test, gaming benchmark, user opinions and photos
Vernee X2 Overview
Vernee X2 - infinite autonomy
Good day, dear users of Unite4Buy. Is good autonomy one of the main criteria for the success of a smartphone? Definitely. If a few years ago, a user used his mobile assistant mainly for calls, SMS and a browser, today phones are increasingly being used both as a replacement for a game console and as an alternative to a camera. And the abundance of all kinds of instant messengers affect the operating time of the device. That is why a modern user even requires a relatively affordable device from a capacious battery. The hero of today's review, Vernee X2, fits the definition of a relevant, stand-alone and functional phone worthy of attention.
Let's start considering the smartphone with its design and configuration. The phone is delivered in a dense cardboard box, the lower edge of which contains a brief list of technical specifications. In addition to the device itself, it is easy to find a quick user guide in it, a device for opening the SIM card tray, a MicroUSB wire and a 2A 5V charger.
Separately, we note a high-quality dark silicone-rubber case, stylized in carbon. This solution looks very stylish, will not turn yellow after a while like its transparent counterparts. In addition, the cover will be able to protect the smartphone from falling from a small height.
A protective film is glued on the screen. For complete delight from the kit, only headphones are missing. As for the appearance of the phone itself, we have before us a pretty standard monoblock by today's standards, the back panel of which is completely made of polycarbonate, as well as the side faces. A dual camera, a fingerprint sensor and a 6-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 18: 8 without cuts somewhat improve the overall impression of the exterior of the gadget, however, the rather wide display bezels and the noticeable thickness of the case still do not let us forget about the phone belonging to the lower price category. The build quality is decent, no creaks and backlash were found. On the right side is the on / off button, on the left - the volume button. The solution is not the most common, but quite convenient. Thus, according to the criterion “Design and equipment”, within the value segment, the device deserves a strong five points.
What about the screen? The 6-inch IPS panel is almost completely devoid of air between the glass and the sensor. And although there were no statements about the OGS technology from the developer, the image remains partially visible even in direct sunlight. Of course, one cannot dream of a full-fledged comfortable work with the device in such lighting. Resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels can not be called a record, the picture detail is average. However, if we were dealing with a FullHD-panel, then the performance of the device decreased significantly. The brightness and contrast levels are good for the value category, the displayed image looks quite vibrant and colorful. White balance is far from ideal. It is biased towards warmth, but in reality white seems rather dirty gray. At high viewing angles, the picture loses in brightness, but is practically not distorted. The GLOW effect is weak, only diagonally and at the maximum tilt of the IPS display. In complete darkness, it is quite possible to work with the device, even if the brightness level is not so low that the eyes do not get tired for a long time. 5-touch multi-touch, no problems with phantom clicks or poor sensor responsiveness were observed. Thus, in its price category for the parameter “Display Quality” Vernee X2 receives a well-deserved “four”.
Now consider the performance of a smartphone and the optimization of its software. The device runs on the operating system Android 9.0. When you turn on the phone for the first time and then become familiar with the VerneeOS shell, the buyer may have serious questions about the speed of the device. Initially, there was a feeling that the gadget came to us straight from 2009. However, the problem was quickly identified and resolved. It consisted of the included gesture control, which on Android and flagship models makes you sweat. In general, the proprietary shell is quite smooth, all applications are on the desktops, there is no separate menu for them. The developer tried not to leave untranslated phrases, so the firmware Russification is almost one hundred percent. However, the translation process was not as painless as we would like, therefore phrases such as “Intelligent auxiliary”, “Sensor alignment”, “Record face” will accompany you in the settings menu.
But the visual component is quite nice. The color, style, size of the icons and other components of the interface are pleasing to the eye. No serious lags were observed, reboots and other unpleasant things also bypassed the author of the review. In addition, the author of the review even received an OTA update. Thus, the developer did not abandon his creation immediately after its release.
Specifications are presented by the Mediatek MT6739 processor, 3GB of RAM and the PowerVR GE8100 video adapter. Unfortunately, this bunch is not playable from the word at all. An amazing fact is the ability to install the resource-demanding Asphalt 9 game, which was absent on the devices previously reviewed by us based on the same chip. However, how does it work! Fairy tale! Even on the “Performance” graphics settings, the application produces 10 fps on the strength, which is more like a slide show.
World Of Tanks Blitz, another resource-intensive online project, operates at low graphics settings at about 30-40 frames per second with serious drawdowns of up to 15. At minimal graphics settings, the game shows great smoothness, but looks like an alien from the era of Playstation 1. Thus , the buyer Vernee X2 will have to be content only with casual gaming applications. As a result, the “Performance and Optimization of Software” parameter gives the device a “four with a minus”.
WoT at low graphics settings:
WoT with minimal graphics settings:
The main 13 and 5-megapixel photomodules of the device have close to natural color reproduction of photographs when shooting in the daytime. The detail of the pictures is at an average level for the price segment, the leaves of the plants for most of the frames are mixed into a single mess due to the large number of noise. The dynamic range is small, the detail in dark areas is low, with a change in exposure, the sky becomes bright white.
The flash works correctly, it can be used as a flashlight. When shooting with a flash from a distance of a meter, the resulting photos may not be amazed by the abundance of details and the absence of noise, but they still look good on the smartphone screen.
Night photo shoots without a flash are frankly bad. The f.2.2 aperture sensor is simply not able to pick up the right amount of light for a decent photo.
The front 8-megapixel module serves for the function of unlocking to detect faces and create a selfie. With the latter, things are mediocre, but for the price segment this situation is more than normal. With high-quality lighting, it is quite possible to make a "self", but it is better to use the sensor as a replacement for the mirror. Faces are detected during the day, albeit somewhat slowly, at night or in a dark room, it is better to use a fingerprint scanner.
Video recording from the main cameras takes place in FullHD resolution, there is no stabilization. If the detail of the picture is relatively good, then color distortions and frequent attempts by sensors to change the exposure are not encouraging. If to summarize everything said above, then according to the “Camera Quality” parameter, the device gets a solid “four” within the framework of the value category.
We will touch sensors and sensors. Light and proximity sensors function without interruption. When holding the phone to the ear for conversation, the screen turned off stably, only a few times it continued to work, but this is more likely an exception to the rule. Auto brightness works correctly, even if the brightness levels change slowly. The operation of the accelerometer was tested in Asphalt 9. Despite the terrible work of the game in terms of smooth gameplay and the displayed number of frames per second, the controls were correct. The fingerprint scanner located on the rear panel can hardly be called fast. Between touching and unlocking the display takes about a second, but in 17-18 cases out of 20, the finger is correctly detected. However, it should be noted that dirt or moisture adversely affects the accuracy of the print. The fingerprint sensor in this regard is very moody.
Consider in this paragraph the operation of GPS. If Vernee X2 will be bought as an inexpensive replacement for the navigator, then the candidacy for such a role from it is quite worthy. With little cloud cover and in open areas, the smartphone detected 21 satellites in about 10-20 seconds, of which it connected to 17. The localization accuracy was around one meter. Indoors, the situation, of course, is more modest. The accuracy dropped to 4 meters, and the connection was made to 11 satellites. Thus, in terms of the “Operation of sensors and sensors”, the phone deserves the “five”.
I don’t want to describe the sound of the phone for a long time. Before us is a completely standard speaker for a low price segment in terms of volume and quality speaker. Basically, mids and upper mids are listened; it is not intended for playing music. It’s quite difficult to miss, a special thanks for this and a good vibration. There is a separate headphone jack, but the sound level is only suitable for lowly listeners. The reproduced “scene” is rather narrow, there is a slight distortion of the frequency response in the direction of the upper middle frequencies, the lower frequencies lack control, due to which the corresponding instruments can be heard in an echoing and unnatural way. However, for the value category, this phenomenon is commonplace. Thus, according to the indicator “Sound quality”, the phone displays a “four”.
The main advantage of the smartphone is its huge 6350mAh battery. And although the installation of such a battery affected the thickness of the device, the resulting autonomy cannot but rejoice. Let's evaluate how long the device can receive from a single charge of the gadget:
- for 1 hour of playing World of Tanks Blitz by WiFi connection, auto brightness and volume of 50%, the battery was discharged by 13%, which allows you to expect about 7.5 hours of gameplay.
- per night (approximately 8 hours) without a SIM card, with GPS and WiFI turned off, the phone is discharged by 1%;
- during the night (about 8 hours) with a SIM card and an Internet connection turned on, the gadget lost 3% of the charge;
- From 2 to 100%, the smartphone was charged for about 4 hours.
Based on the data presented and the experience of using a smartphone, the buyer can safely count on two days of using the phone at 6-7 hours of active screen time, which allows Vernee X2 five points for the “Autonomy” indicator.
Directly telephone functions of the device from Verney performs with dignity. The quality of the microphone and the speaker is, of course, far from flagship, but there was no discontent from the people on the other end of the wire. The stability of the Internet connection is not worse than that of Xiaomi Redmi 7, Pocophone F1, however, if 4G or 3G gave way to 2G, then sometimes the situation did not change until “Airplane mode” turned on for a few seconds. Wi-Fi reception in this instance of the phone was average. Through 2 walls and about 6-7 meters from the distribution device (laptop), the connection was often lost. If you take into account the price of a smartphone, then for the parameter “Telephone functions” it is quite possible to give it a rating of “Five with a minus”.
As a result, we got an extremely long-lasting inexpensive smartphone, devoid of serious shortcomings. Unfortunately, in addition to autonomy and obvious competitive advantages, the phone essentially does not, however, given the combination of low price, fairly up-to-date design and not the worst technical characteristics, the device is ready to become a reliable mobile assistant for people who need increased battery capacity in their smartphone . We list the main advantages and disadvantages of the gadget.
