Xiaomi POCO F8 Pro – striking the imagination

The F-series smartphones from the Chinese company POCO (a Xiaomi sub-brand) sell millions of units each year, as there are virtually no alternatives in their price segment. While the manufacturer has to make some compromises to achieve a fantastic balance of price and quality, the end result is well worth the effort. And today's review subject will definitely make all critics nervous.

The new device's appearance is neat, stylish, and minimalist. Rounded corners of the glass and metal body, IP69 water resistance, a modern photo module assembly, and extremely thin screen bezels with an integrated ultrasonic fingerprint scanner give the device a premium and truly beautiful look. The 6.59-inch AMOLED display has a resolution of 2510x1156 pixels, which isn't a record-breaking but is optimal for its diagonal size. Both image clarity and power efficiency are maintained, complemented by smooth images at an impressive 120Hz refresh rate, natural color reproduction, and a peak brightness of 3500 nits.

The technical specifications are also impressive. Last year's flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, 12/16GB of RAM, and an Adreno 830 GPU immerse users in the latest games like Zenless Zone Zero and Fortnite with maximum graphics settings and a stunningly stable and high frame rate. While the processor does exhibit some throttling, it's minimal, with no stuttering or frame rate drops. The 6200mAh battery ensures excellent battery life, lasting up to 10-12 hours of active screen time. Wireless charging is reserved for the Ultra model, but the wired version now offers 100W of power. Storage options include 256GB/512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.

The camera capabilities also offer little criticism. Perhaps its only weakness is the modest 8-megapixel wide-angle lens, which is capable of high-quality photos and videos only in ideal daylight conditions. The main 50-megapixel Omnivision Light Fusion 800 sensor with hybrid stabilization and the 50-megapixel telephoto lens with nearly 3x optical zoom are perfectly suited for evening photo sessions and capturing dynamic scenes. Stereo speakers with Bose sound tuning are loud and well-balanced, making listening to music comfortable. 5G and NFC support, eSIM, and an IR port further confirm the relevance and competitiveness of this amazing device.
