Xiaomi Poco C65 - cheap does not mean bad

The Chinese company Xiaomi is a recognized master of creating inexpensive smartphones. Their sub-brand Poco tries to keep up with its parent corporation, every year delighting its fans with a dozen or more bestsellers with an excellent combination of price and quality. And it looks like the hero of today’s review will be on their list.

The appearance of the new product is good for its price segment. What immediately catches your eye is the modern design of the triple camera, a convenient side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and reasonable-width display frames. Of course, there were some savings, which manifested themselves in the body materials (stainable plastic) and the outdated form factor of the 5-megapixel selfie camera. The installed 6.74-inch IPS panel cannot compete with expensive analogues in terms of picture clarity, because the resolution is a modest 1600x720 pixels. However, in terms of brightness and contrast, smoothness (90 Hz refresh rate), and realistic color reproduction, the screen is no worse than the solutions of opponents.

The technical characteristics selected are the well-known MediaTek Helio G85 CPU, 6GB/8GB of RAM and the Mali G52 MC2 video accelerator. The chipset is already more than three years old, but it is relevant for low-cost phones. More than 200 thousand points in the AnTuTu synthetic test indicate fairly smooth operation of the Android 13 interface (MIUI shell) and undemanding Android games. Fans of projects like Genshin Impact will either have to pay extra for a more expensive device, or put up with frequent lags with minimal graphic presets. The volume of permanent memory is increased to 128/256GB, a slot for MicroSD cards is left. Autonomy has not become a weak point of the gadget, because it is equipped with a 5000 mAh battery. The active screen time indicator usually exceeds 10 hours, and the battery also has fast charging capacity of 18W.

The main cameras are represented by a standard 50-megapixel Samsung JN1 sensor and 2-megapixel auxiliary sensors. This is a basic level of photography, at which it is quite possible to count on the detail of daytime shots of not the most moving objects. Complex photo shoot scenarios will lead not only to blurring of small details, but also to multiple noises. NFC contactless payments and a separate audio jack are provided, but there is no stereo sound, however, many competitors are deprived of it. The final impression of the device is rather positive. This is an excellent workhorse, although not without a number of disadvantages.
